San Antonio Texas-Last Days

This is the last post from our vacation. After two days in San Antonio Texas, we drove 23 hours straight back home. I checked a lot off my bucket list and thoroughly enjoyed this entire trip!

In the picture above these two were camouflaged from the people, do you see them?

That blue sky never stopped.

I loved all the colors on the Riverwalk.

There weren’t very many people during the day.

Standing on a bridge.

Everything was so well kept up and fun to look at.

Free fertilizer!

This was where we ate lunch.

I found us a table close to the river.

This was my husband’s lunch, he loved it.

I ordered a meal with shrimp. Ten minutes later they came back with my husband’s meal and then told me they don’t have any shrimp. I told my husband to eat so his food wouldn’t get cold. I ordered the ribs this time and about 15 minutes later they told me they didn’t have any ribs.
I had waited a good half hour and told the waiter forget it and asked if they had Texas Sheet Cake as it was on the menu, I wanted to see if it tasted like mine. The waiter went to check and another 10 minutes waiting he brought the cake. We waited for the bill, but our waiter was nowhere to be found so we found him. He said because I didn’t get any real food, I would get the cake for free. I was already looking forward to delicious food for supper.

Street art.

I couldn’t be happier to eat at Bubba Gump; we love this restaurant.

On every table there are these two signs. If you need your waitress, you flip the sign to red. If you don’t need anything you flip the sign to blue.

I was so hungry that I wanted to order everything, my clam chowder.

My seafood boil.

I even ordered dessert and I was stuffed, everything was delicious! It was a good thing we had to walk here after all that food. We walked back to the hotel for the last night.

Driving home we followed the tail end of a bad storm. We saw many semi-trucks and cars that wrecked and were on the side of the road. Our entire trip was nothing but fun, blue skies and wonderful temperatures! I really enjoyed sharing our trip out west with you!

Apart from that first restaurant this was a beautifully photographed conclusion to a memorable trip. I did see the mallards and think that last skies and tree picture is perfect
Thank you Derrick!
Thank you Ned, have a great weekend!
sounds like a lovely time!
It definitely was, I was so excited to check this off of my bucket list!
Great pictures! That’s crazy about your lunch! I would have been starved! Your supper looks fabulous though. I can’t believe you drove 23 hours straight back home! The cloud picture is stunning. I am glad you had such a fun and great trip!
Thank you for your kind words Betty. I definitely ate enough at Bubba Gumps to make up for no lunch.
Great pictures that speak a thousand words of family fun and relaxation.
This trip was an early 35th anniversary celebration. A trip we will never forget. We would never have spent so much time when we both worked, retirement is a wonderful thing! Thank you Georgetta!
Glad you had a good trip. Wow…23 hours of driving. My limit per day is around 5 🙂
I only drove 2 hours that day, my husband drove all the rest. We were 15 minutes from home and the main road to our house was closed because a semi flipped and they needed both lanes to get it upright. It took 1/2 hour for this ordeal and our house was so close. We both passed out as soon as we got home. Thank you!
Wow…so he drove 21 hours. Yikes. How frustrating to be held up at the end. Hope the driver of that semi is ok.
Yes he did, we planned on getting a hotel when we got to the north of Texas, then said he will keep going and if he thinks he couldn’t do it we would stop, never happened. You know how it is when you love going and doing things but when it’s done you just want to be home.
What an amazing way to end your trip, Diane! I’m glad you got that cake for free and you more than made up for lunch with that sumptuous dinner!!!
I’m sure that was probably the traditional Texas Sheet Cake but it didn’t taste that great to me, I will stick to my recipe. That supper was amazing at Bubba Gump, we love the food there. For almost 2 weeks of eating out 2 times a day and every place was delicious, I can’t complain.
I’d love to try Bubba Gump one day!
Yes do! The first time we tried it was The Mall of America.
On no, the end of your trip pictures and I have enjoyed them immensely Diane. You were blessed to have safe travel, blue skies and except for having to endure cake for your lunch while embarking on this very long trip home, it sounds like it was the perfect trip. This food looks good – I would be hungry as a horse by then!
It was fun reliving the memories as I posted pictures. I made up for not eating lunch at Bubba Gumps! They have the best food!
Yes, I feel like that when I do a memory-type post. It is fun to put together and nice you can relive your trip by going through the photos to post them.
What a fun trip! (The 23 hour drive, not so much!) Thank you for sharing your photos.
It was very fun Linda. I could only handle 2 hours then I took my medicine which I won’t drive if I take it, my hubby did the rest. If he had been too tired to do it we would have stopped.
Yes, to the soul of San Antonio – historic, delicious and divine!
I agree!
I have really enjoyed traveling vicariously through your posts.
Thank you for your kind words. It was fun for me to revisit all the pictures.
I’m glad you had such a great trip and got to tick so many things off of your bucket list and thank you for sharing it all with us.
You’re welcome Misty, thank you!
That was nice of the restaurant to give you the cake free – and I did see the birds hiding in that very cool shot. Alos, I have been to San Antonio, TX twice and both times were just okay, and your post allowed me to see so much of the beauty – and the canal is especially something I missed.
🙂
How funny, we didn’t see anything else but the Riverwalk.
Wow a 23 drive home – that was brave! That storm tail end sounds scary!
But your photos and adventures sound fun except the challenge with the restaurant not having any food you tried to order but at least you got free cake!
I could never have driven that far. We drove home from Florida years ago and I fell asleep at the wheel. My husband woke up the minute I fell asleep and grabbed the wheel, some God intervention there!!! I tried to stay awake just to keep him company on this trip, but I wouldn’t drive except for 2 hours of the 23 hours. It was worth missing lunch with all that Bubba Gump food for supper. The cake was very dry which surprised me as the recipe that I make, the cake is moist.
That was quite an adventure! Thanks for sharing! Karla/Clampetts
You’re welcome Karla, it was a perfect trip.
It’s wonderful that you had such great weather for your trip. Did you go to The Alamo while you were in San Antonio? I was really surprised at how small it was. I’ve never been to a Bubba Gumps, but that food looked delicious. Too bad about your lunch. I found the restaurants on the river were hit or miss. Glad you had such a wonderful time, Diane and got to check off so many of your bucket list places.
No we didn’t go to the Alamo, Carla. My husband asked me before we left on vacation but I just wanted to see The Riverwalk. Thank you for your kind words Carla!
Oh, it’s a shame your lunch didn’t turn out quite as you hoped – well, at least the cake was free (small things to be grateful for, right 😉). Despite this, it looks like you had a wonderful holiday, Diane! Your last photo is a great way to end your trip. Thank you for sharing all the beautiful moments with us.
It’s nice to hear from you Corna! I hope you two are doing wonderful. That lunch was OK to miss, did you see what I ate for supper? lol Besides, that was the only minor thing that went wrong in almost 2 weeks, I won’t complain. It was fun sharing the pictures since we went in March, it was like reliving the fun all over again!
