Red-Tailed Hawk

This large Red-Tailed Hawk landed in our front yard. Evidently an animal was hit by a car or died so this hawk had it for dinner. When my husband went to the window to take this picture, the hawk saw him and flew off, now I see where they get the expression hawk eye.

Yes, indeed
A beautiful bird
Great capture! It may be a little gory, but hawks and vultures do clean up the environment for us.
Exactly, we all have to eat. Thank you Betty!
Very cool photo! Sorry for the roadkill though and a good stark reminder of nature’s pecking order!
Even though we live in the country, we live on a busy road. Cars fly by and we have found so many animals dead, even deer. We threw a dead deer back behind our house in the brush and while we didn’t see any birds or animals eating it, the bugs devoured every piece of meat, nothing left but bones. There were so many bugs it looked like the deer carcass was moving!
Poor deer!!!
I know, it’s sad to see them get hit by a car.
Very cool ! The circle of life
Exactly! Thank you Susan.
Great photo and experience.
I see them all the time on fencing and posts when we are driving in the car. Thank you Katelon! I hope you are doing well!
Nature at its best. I suspect the carrion (did I use that term right?) will be gone when your back is turned.
Yes you did! They don’t like being close to our house or the busy road. They always pick it apart until they can fly away with the remains.
Beautiful creatures!
They sure are! They are in abundance this past year.
The cycle of life.
Right!
You’re right, hawk eye is the perfect description! Good job for getting a photo.
Thank you!
Oh my – they are big when you see them on the ground like that. A little nature story right out of your window.
I wish he wasn’t so scared and flew away. This hawk seemed much bigger but it may be because it was so close to us.
I am amazed at raptors, how big they look on the ground. A fellow blogger takes photos of Bald Eagles on the ground sometimes (on the flats in the area where he lives) and perhaps also it is the feathers on their legs make them look so much bigger.
Oh, wow! That is a large hawk. Great photo!
He was so big that we weren’t sure it was a red tailed hawk until I looked it up. Thank you!
We have red tailed hawks here is Colorado 🙂
They have quite the area they travel to and from. They are such a beautiful bird.
