Mama Grosbeak Feeding Her Baby

I took this picture right through my window. I was so excited to witness this special moment that I had to share it with you. They aren’t the best quality pictures but they were exciting to see.

It looks like the baby isn’t very happy that I’m watching them.

The baby female Grosbeak is still keeping an eye on me!

Great capture
Thank you I haven’t seen either one since. Lol
Lovely
Thank you Derrick
This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pics!
You’re welcome Kim
This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing these pictures!
I was happy to share them, this was a first for me. Usually the Grosbeak leave in May so it was pretty exciting to see.
How beautiful!
It was amazing to see as I have never seen a baby Grosbeak before. Thank you!
What a sweet and unusual moment to see and capture!
Thank you Patty!
Wow! Great shots
Thank you Mary!
Diane,
From what I see on Merlin app and others, you may have actually captured a daddy grosbeak feeding the infant. Mama grosbeaks look a lot more like an oversized sparrow.
Maybe the baby was actually a female? It was about that size. You are definitely right because females look like the baby (if it was a baby).
Adorable moment. Nature is truly amazing to witness, especially mothers caring for their young. What a tender moment, Diane!
Thank you Ab, it really made my day.
Great photos!
Thank you, I was shocked not only because of the feeding but the grosbeaks usually disappear by the end of May.
How wonderful you were able to watch–and photograph–it!
It happened so quick I just grabbed my phone and tried not to scare them off. I haven’t seen them since.
Right time, right place!
How exciting to see this Diane. I’ve never seen a Grosbeak before, let alone feeding her baby. That’s a big baby and its embarrassed you saw it still getting its meals from mom. 🙂 I saw a Northern Flicker last week feeding its baby and the baby was almost the same size … they are fairly big birds to begin with.
I was pretty excited to see it on top of the shepherds hook Linda. I think all the bird babies are about full grown now.
I would be excited too. I think so too, although my pest of a Robin did not show up to build a nest in the coach light in April or May, but two weeks ago. So now there is a box inside the elbow.
Oh no she fooled you! Our robin stopped making a nest in the cabana and as soon as we stopped checking, she started building again. These birds aren’t dumb!
That’s funny – yes, they’re watching for us to let down our guard. Birds should not be called birdbrains – ever!
Thank you, they’re beautiful
You’re welcome Barry!
They look like great quality pictures to me. Thanks for sharing them. They’re delightful. 🙂
You are so kind, thank you!
This is a special moment to be able to capture! I see this quite a lot at our bird feeder in the garden (usually yellow finches) and every time I stand in awe!
You are very lucky to see this a lot. You know we have a ton of birds, and we have seen other birds feeding the baby but the Grosbeak is never around this late in the season. I’m guessing it’s the first time she laid eggs in our trees so she stuck around.
Very cool photo. We’ve spent the last couple of months watching the tree swallows that inhabited our bird house this year as they raised their brood. Lot of beak-to-beak feeding! They’re all gone now- another successful season!
Isn’t nature amazing? We watch them do the same thing every year but next year it’s like we have never seen them before. Lol
That is so cool! I love Grosbeaks but have never seen a baby, thanks for sharing Diane😊
That was the first time I have seen a baby. At first I saw the baby and said to my husband there’s a new bird. Then just that quick mama came to feed the baby. You’re very welcome Susan.
How awesome to witness this!
It definitely was very special especially the way the baby looked at me. Lol
These are awesome pictures, Diane. I love them.
Thank you so much Carla. 🥰
I missed seeing this post in July. I love it! Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos! Rose-breasted Grosbeaks migrate through the piedmont of NC and it’s a thrill to actually see one as they pass through. I’ve only seen one three times in my life. They are gorgeous!
They really are beautiful Janet. When they first arrive every year we know spring has sprung. We have never had them stick around to have babies, this was the first time in over 30 years, so it was very exciting to see.
