Fourth Kitchen Remodel Update – Granite Countertop Installation

Today is a sad day! We had to disconnect my gas range because the countertop installers were coming the next day. I think I will survive two days without it but I don’t want to, I sure do love that range!

We crammed it in with everything else but in front of our basement door, we can still squeeze through though. I don’t know how they will get that countertop in.

I’m not surprised, they couldn’t get it in through the kitchen door! So we had to move the dishwasher, microwave and everything else that was stored on the foyer floor so they could come in the front door instead. They were very careful not to scratch my new flooring by putting down some protective blankets.

They brought the granite in on a cart with wheels, that made it easy!

They struggled to make the turn and had to move a few things.

They made it to the island, BUT, it has to go over the island and onto the cabinets on the right!

They man handled this heavy rock countertop and lifted it over the island.

Whew they made it like they did this everyday. Now at least the weight is on the cabinet, but how will they lay it gently on the cabinet?

Just like the professionals they are!

Now it is in place! They used silicone to seal the granite to the cabinets.

They placed the sink into the opening getting ready to install it.

We picked out an under mount sink.

One worked on the sink installation and the other worked on the seam.

He used silicone to seal the sink to the counter so water won’t get into the cabinets.

The sink clips are installed from under the sink to hold it in place.

What a nice job! Next up the hole for the faucet.

They worked together drilling the hole and sucking up the dust with the shop vac.

The hole is done.

Now for the seam, I wasn’t expecting much and was disappointed we had to have a seam, but our counter was too long to avoid a seam. See the seam in the middle of the picture?

I forgot to ask what this process did but this is how they connected the seam.

Unbelievable, you can’t even see the seam! What a fantastic job, I would hire these guys again in a heartbeat!

We couldn’t be happier! Next up is the new faucet, connecting the water and drain so we can live a more normal life.
Due to the damaged cabinet on the island, they will have to come back to install the granite countertop on it. The new replacement cabinets are due to arrive on July 8th. Things are looking up!

Well, you can always cook using your bbq. I have a gas grill and I have made meatloaf and even an upside down cake using the bbq. It is try though you have to be very vigilant to maintain the heat leave. But for me it was a new experience and very fun. 🤩
Never! I tell my husband nobody can cook on the grill like he does. If I cook on it he will expect it. 🤣
You prepare it and he cooks it on bbq 🥹😅😂
Oh no it is all him! 🤣
It’s opposite here – it’s all me on stove oven or bbq 🤪 but that’s ok I love to cook 🤓👍🏼🍻
That would be amazing as long as I didn’t have to do the dishes. When I cook my husband does them and vice versa.
My wife loves doing dishes. She boots me if I start doing them. She says you cook and I clean up do you can cook some more 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like her!
Me too
Gorgeous granite
Thank you so much. My granddaughter asked me if I was going to put anything on it because it was too pretty to cover up. I said yes my coffee pot! Lol
😎
Yay! Yay! Yay!
Looking great!
Thank you so much Nancy!
Nice one, great to see your new kitchen taking shape. I remember when we had ours done a year or two ago, it was organised.chaos for a while, but well worth it. You must be so excited to see things coming together, love your new countertop!
Thank you Paul! The cabinet replacements finally came Monday and they bubble wrapped all seven cabinets. They should have did that the first time because they were perfect! I didn’t mind the chaos except that the bad cabinets added 5 additional weeks of it. Contractor is hoping to get the upper cabinets in by Saturday. Woo hoo!!!!!
KWYM, we had similar problems with cabinets as well which had to be replaced. You’ll get there, for a while we felt like we were growing in boxes and bubble wrap LOL 🙂
I understand that! The company bubble wrapped the replacements the second time and they were perfect. They should have done that the first time. The end is getting closer and the house is getting uncluttered. We are very excited to be done! I’m tired of people in the house. Lol
I’m so glad to hear your new kitchen is almost complete now. We had a new kitchen a little while ago and it felt like the whole house was turned upside down LOL. It’ll all have been well worth it though and you’ll love your new kitchen 🙂
Thank you Paul 🥰
What a mission to get that countertop in the kitchen … but how beautiful it is! And it’s amazing how the seam just seemingly disappeared! Yeah, things are indeed looking up!
Yes they are, thank you!
beautiful countertop and what professionals they are!
Thank you Beth and they sure were!
Beautiful granite choice, Diane💜 Thanks for the great update!
Thank you so much Jonetta and my pleasure!
Beautiful counter tops.
Thank you Georgetta!
Wow, what an awesome job. You can’t even see the seam. I love the choice of granite. It’s looking good, Diane.
The granite has definitely become my favorite thing we bought. I can’t wait until Tuesday when the put the granite on the island. Thank you Carla 🥰
What an amazing job! I wonder how many times someone takes pictures of them while they are working. Although, my guess is asking them to “Smile” might put them over the edge! It is great that you cannot see the seam at all. Pretty impressive!
I did ask their permission first. The only picture one of them commented on is the guy under the sink, he said make sure you can’t see down his shorts! 🤣
ha ha!
Oh Diane, what a stunning counter! The grain is beautiful, and you can’t even tell there’s a seam.
We couldn’t be happier with the granite, they did a fantastic job installing it. Thank you Dorothy 🥰
Nice counter tops.
Thank you so much Susanne!
Isn’t it amazing what they can do with a seam? I like your granite color, my wife prefers very dark countertops. Ours is very light but yours would be a nice middle ground. I am glad they did not talk you into an enamel coated sink. Thanks for sharing the update,
Thank you Danny! There were so many different granite colors to pick from, this one jumped out at both of us. I can’t wait to see how the backsplash looks with it. Oh I would never have enamel. I actually got my sink for free from the company that installed the granite. I mentioned to him I need to find a 16 guage stainless steel sink and he said he would throw it in for free. He had me come in and look at what he had in stock and I found exactly what we wanted.
Gorgeous Diane! Made me nervous … Can’t wait for the finished look! Happy Weekend! 🙂
Thank you and I hope your weekend has been fun!
Looks great!
Thank you! 🥰
Glad to hear good news and to see how beautiful your countertop is! You’re getting there!
Thank you Patty! The contractor put the handles on all the cabinets and that made such a huge difference. Slowly but surely!
This has been so fun to watch! I’ll chime in with you, “What seam?” That is incredible workmanship!
Yes they did an amazing job. Except for the damaged cabinets everything has been top notch. Cabinets came after a 5 week delay and they were bubble wrapped. 🤣 The cabinets themselves are also top quality, they just need a better way of shipping them.
Even though I am not a cook, nor baker, I am very envious of all the countertop space you have Diane and that granite countertop as well!
Awe don’t be envious, a home is a home no matter what size the counters are and you have so much history with yours.
Yes, you’ll be happy to know I got a new computer, because the Windows 10, never used, had something wrong with it and was very slow. I wanted a Windows 11 before the Windows 12 with AI came out … so I configured it over the weekend. So what to do with the Windows 10 – moved it on a metal stand over my very old 2009 laptop … moved the other one to the living room – lack of plugs. The top of the stove is now bare and computer free. And no extra table in the kitchen (for now). I have some serious work to do in the kitchen. Maybe while Beryl is visiting Michigan this week.
How exciting and you have your stove cleared off! Progress for sure!
Yes, I thought so too – the kitchen is in such a sorry state … how could it get this cluttered? Well, now I have more real estate to clutter with the glass stovetop. 🙂
I guess it is just like a table top right? Lol
Yes, I kind of missed it as I used it like a counter top. If I could put the crockpot on it, I would, but it’s too heavy. I have such limited plugs – that is a big problem and in the bedrooms, the plugs are in stupid places or behind furniture as the rooms are small.
That’s what they did with outlets in the older days. I can’t wait until the day the electricity goes through the air like WiFi does. Lol
Wouldn’t that be awesome if they could do that? Hopefully in our lifetime.
It looks wonderful, Diane! Worth the minor inconvenience. You just must be thrilled with how it’s all coming together.
I have loved everything our contractor has done. Everything has arrived in good shape except the cabinets. On bad apple isn’t spoiing this basket!
How pretty, Diane! Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous! I’m excited for you. I know you’re more than ready for this project to be finished!
Thank you for your nice words Janet. We are SO ready for this to be done. The kitchen still has all the decorative cabinet molding to go up, he needs to put on the mud design and paint the ceiling, paint some of the walls, install all new molding on the window and doors, then put the backsplash up. Then there is the rest of the molding and a huge window in the living room. It seems like he will never get done but it is slowly getting there.
Wow the countertop your selected is super gorgeous! It was fun to look at all the photos and I can start to imagine the final reveal a little! No worries your beloved range will be back in service in no time 🙂
Thank you the granite was the perfect choice for us. Every single day we comment on it. Tuesday my island top will be installed, I can’t wait!
