Orange Chicken

Did you know that Orange Chicken is an American Chinese dish? It is made by battering the bite sized chicken pieces, frying them and adding the delicious orange flavored sauce.

In a large bowl combine the sauce ingredients then set aside.

Combine the garlic, ginger and crushed red peppers then set aside.

Place the chicken in a bowl.

In a shallow dish combine the chicken coating mixture then dip the chicken into it, completely coating the chicken.

Combine the flour and cornstarch then dredge the chicken into it.

Place the coated chicken on a large plate or baking sheet.

Heat the oil to 375º in a large frying pan or wok. Cook the chicken until golden brown, crisp and cooked through.

Place the cooked chicken on a paper towel lined plate and keep warm. Repeat the cooking process until the chicken is all cooked.

Carefully wipe out the “HOT” wok with a paper towel. Add 1 Tbsp. oil, add the ginger mixture and cook for 10 seconds.

Add the sauce mixture to the wok and bring to a boil stirring constantly.

Remove from the heat and add the chicken, gently tossing to coat with the sauce.

Then serve!

Looks delicious. Very well detailed in your presentation. Yes, I personally knew about Orange Chicken being an Asian inspired dish from the US.
Thank you Randy.
You’re welcome ☺️
Sounds delicious! An interesting combination!
Thank you 🥰
Nice post
Thank you!
This is good stuff. I had that every day for like 3 months straight. Never got bored of it. 😜
We just got a Panda Express restaurant here and their orange chicken is amazing! If it wasn’t so expensive, I could eat it all the time too, maybe not every day though. 🤣
That’s where I ate mine every day.. you would usually get a free coupon with every purchase.. so I truly only paid for 3 meals each week..it was a life saver in college days 😜
How nice! I wish ours did that too.
It used to be on the receipt..a number to call. They’d give you a code for a free entree’.. maybe they’ve stopped doing it. Can’t hurt to check.
Oh I never looked at it. I know our local Wendy’s and Burger King did that too.
This looks so good Diane! I made a similar dish one, the orange zest adds so much flavour. And I made a note of how you coated the chicken for future tries on my end.
All the years of eating oranges and I swear there is more orange flavor in the zest! Thank you Ab!
Looks delicious but I think I will stick with take out.
Due to my health issue I asked my husband to do the frying which really helped a lot. Thank you Bernadette.
Sounds delicious! Your step-by-step is great!
Thank you so much Dorothy!
Wow I love this dish, thanks for sharing this recipe!
Thank you and you’re welcome Tierney.
One of my favorite restaurant dishes, Diane! I’m so glad to now know how to make it at home. Thank you.
Mine to Kellye, you’re welcome.
I like that you even used an orange bowl to accompany this post Diane.
Hahaha I had to go back and see, I didn’t even realize it.
I thought you did it on purpose. 🙂
Omg, I just thought about making this dish yesterday before you posted this. Coincidence!
I could eat this once a week.
This looks amazingly good!
One of my favorite dishes! Thank you
I love it. How interesting that its origins are not actually Chinese.
I know, I was surprised by that too.
I love orange chicken! Yum
Me too! If we eat out and it’s on the menu I order it.
Oh, yum, I love chicken and this looks fancy but doable. Thanks Diane! Hugs, C
Thank you Cheryl and you’re welcome.
That’s an interesting dish Diane. I can definitely see the Chinese influence here (and it looks really nice).
Thank you, one of my favorites.
