A Lake Beachfront Weekend

It’s Labor Day, a day to celebrate and pay tribute to the achievements of American and Canadian workers.

I spent the long weekend at a beachfront condo, on Lake Erie, with my daughter in Geneva Ohio. We go away once a year together, just the two of us, and always have a wonderful time.

The lake view from our condo.

This was a dock that extended past the beach with two benches at the end.

The beach always had people on it until dark, there was another side of the beach to the right.

It was too hot to swim in the pool.

Sunday we went to Geneva-on-the-Lake, it was extremely busy.

We drove to Ashtabula Ohio and ate at my favorite seafood restaurant.

The shrimp, scallops, lobster tail and twice baked potato were absolutely delicious, I was stuffed!

This is the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, it is gorgeous inside.

We weren’t too impressed with the Old Mill Winery, this was winery stop #1 and ended up being the only one we thought wasn’t worth going to.

This sign is showing all the winery’s and how far away they are.

We really enjoyed stopping at the Ferrante Winery, this is winery #2.

Ferrante Winery was beautiful inside and out. They even had entertainment and a restaurant.

We bought these three bottles!

Sunday we visited seven more wineries, and no we didn’t drink at any of them, they were just so unique, had entertainment and so many beautiful flowers.

Debonne Vineyards was Winery #3.

Laurentia Winery is winery #4.

South River Vineyard

South River Vineyard was #5.

M Cellars was #6.

Red Eagle Distillery was closed by the time we got there and it was #7.

The Winery at Spring Hill is #8 and they were closed too.

Huntley Cellars was #9 and all we had time for as they were all closing up, there are so many more in the area.

My daughter caught me on our balcony listening to the waves and watching our last sunset.

Enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony.

We have to check out of our condo by 11:00 am today. We will drive back to my house to celebrate my daughters birthday with the grandkids, our gifts and a cake.

The weather couldn’t have been any better for a September weekend, sunny and upper 80’s not to mention the sunsets on the lake!

Last but not least, thank you to my husband as he took care of the grandkids while we were gone, he never complained and is the best husband ever!

  1. What a fabulous trip, Diane. The views of the lake from your condo are gorgeous, and those sunsets are just breathtaking! I loved seeing all the wineries, and the seafood you had almost had me drooling. I’m so glad that you and your daughter got to enjoy yourselves for a weekend. Kudos to your husband too – he’s a superhero!

  2. What a wonderful post Dianne. Man, I enjoyed the pics, that sunset over your shoulder and that one of the purple flowers that looked like butterflies. Oh, and also that tree lined drive. Cheers to good times.

  3. I love this annual tradition that you have with your daughter. Time flies, I remember the last one you did like it just happened!

Your time at the condo looked wonderful and that candid photo your daughter took warms my heart. The view and the air must’ve been so soothing.

The sights, sounds and all the wine – and that delicious-looking seafood plate – all looked sumptuous. Hope you two have a safe drive back and happy birthday to your daughter!

  4. Diane, what a perfect weekend! Husbands are amazing to keep kids while we enjoy some girl time – and sunsets and wineries are the best! I’m glad you had fun. Safe travels home to start planning the next getaway!

  5. I had no idea that Ohio was wine country. Sounds like you had a great trip. It’s wonderful that you and your daughter are so close and enjoy each other’s company. I was caught by the comment that it was too hot to swim. Usually pools are kept cool enough that the water cools people off. I can imagine though with an enclosed pool that the chlorine smell would be increased too much by the heat outside. I grew up swimming outside in So. AZ.

    • Oh yes there are wineries all over Ohio. One of the wineries even makes wine out of frozen grapes. They pick them at a certain time in the winter and some how (no idea) they make wine from them too. We had to walk through the pool room to get to the beach and it was so hot I couldn’t breathe! We have indoor and outdoor pools at our hotels and motels but with the beach at this place they just had a pool inside for when it gets cold. People actually went in this pool.

  6. Such great pictures. You must have had a great time with your daughter. Good too that you are so close to each other. And of course, I was sooooo happy that you also found time to visit a winery! 🍷🍷🍷

  7. Diane, your post just made my Labor Day! What a wonderful weekend with your daughter with a beautiful setting, lots of interesting things to do and see, and delicious food. Happy Birthday to your daughter.

    • Thank you Linda. I hope she remembers our yearly weekend trips when I’m gone. I told her maybe next time we should fly to the Bahamas. I don’t think my husband or grandchildren would find humor in that! 🤣

  8. Wow, your views from the condo are lovely! There was certainly no shortage of lovely wineries – my kind of place 😊 – and Ferrante’s wine looks very interesting. Wow, those sunset skies are absolutely breathtaking – what a privilege to be able to see it. And what a great way to spend quality time with your daughter Diane. Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos.

  9. It looks like you had a wonderful weekend, Diane. What a beautiful resort. I love that all the wineries look so different from each other. You are blessed with a wonderful family.

    • It really was a perfect mother/daughter weekend Carla. The wineries appear to compete with each other by beauty and live outside music, only the large ones had a restaurant too. We were driving down a country road and saw one after another, it was so mind-boggling.

  10. Sounds like a wonderful weekend Diane and I am envious of all those beautiful sunsets you had. How nice having a mother-daughter weekend; I remember reading another post or two of you both doing this since I’ve been following you. If you’re going to “get away from it all” this sounds like a perfect trip to do so. I liked the flowers and decor of the various wineries as well.

  11. What a nice trip for you and your daughter! It looks like you had lots of interesting adventures, good food, and beautiful scenery, Being able to spend time with your daughter is just so sweet. And kudos to your generous, supportive husband.
