Salt Brined Turkey

Have you ever brined a turkey with just salt and no liquid? The salt causes the moisture to leave the skin. During baking it makes the most delicious crispy skin that seals in the moisture in the turkey. It may not look as pretty as an unsalted turkey but once you taste it you won’t care.

  1. My mother always used to brine her turkey, as did my grandmother, and people always wanted to know why hers were so juicy and flavourful. She never let on about the brining!

    • WHAT???? You haven’t cooked a turkey? Really no different than a chicken, just bigger. My son is brining and putting his on the smoker tomorrow. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

      • Never… I know it must be hard to believe! I can’t even remember if I’ve ever tasted turkey before 👀👀. But now, the smoker sounds like a good idea…

  2. I haven’t done a turkey with a brine yet, so this might be the year I do. Thanks Diane, your ideas are always delicious and timely! Happy Thanksgiving. Gobble, gobble, Hugs, C

    • Yes, I tried it a few hours, afraid it would be too salty but you couldn’t really taste the salt. People brine it for 24-48 hours. It makes the best skin and moist turkey.

  3. Sometimes less is more. It’s amazing how a simple salting (and peppering) goes a long way. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving next weekend!

  4. I cannot believe Thanksgiving and Christmas 🎅🏼 🦃 holidays are here! Hope you and your family are doing well. Hope your health is okay too.
