Air Fryer Onion Rings

We went to Amish Country a week ago and I bought a bag of onion rings that were already breaded and frozen by the Amish. I hate frying in oil so I put them in the air fryer. I am so glad that I did as they were golden brown, very crispy and delicious.

If your onion rings are frozen, let them thaw completely. Spray the basket of your air fryer with cooking oil. Preheat air fryer to 400º for 5 minutes.

Place a layer of onion rings in the basket. I was too hungry to make them one layer at a time so I balanced them on top of each other so they were barely touching the other onion rings. Liberally spray the onion rings with cooking oil then salt them to taste.

Air fry at 400º for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown then enjoy!

  1. Oooo, I didn’t know we could put breaded things in there. My husband will love that. PS love your plate/bowl. My grandma had some dishes like those.

  2. Looks yummy! Diane – do you think an air fryer is worth buying? I don’t normally deep-fry anything but these new fryers look inviting. I have resisted as another appliance when you live off-grid is always frowned upon. However, these seem not to take much grease. Opinion???

    • Absolutely worth every penny in my opinion. I have made everything from lobster tail, wings, fish, sausage, bacon, chips, chicken, pork, steak….well you get the idea. The only thing I use is Pam (spray cooking oil) and clean up in mine is a breeze. I highly recommend buying one unless you have a large family as they only hold enough for 2-3 people in one cooking on most accounts. It is perfect for my husband and me. Thank you 💕

  3. I air fry the Walmart onion rings – oh so good!!
Didn’t get to make the orange chicken yet. I needed something for a brunch, so I made your Wartime Eggs in Noodle Nests. First – they made a hit as a conversation starter and then I got the ooh and aahs for taste. You have another winner!!

  4. 💜 Frying Pans can be Demonic EveryOne; just a little oil in an Air Fryer is THE GO!!! EveryBody

    …💛💚💙…

  5. Onion rings are always such a treat! I like to have them with store bought spicy mayo (or you can make your own by mixing mayo and sriracha sauce). Yum!

  6. My husband used our air fryer tonight to make catfish tacos. We are just getting used to the benefits of an air fryer. Tonight my husband noted the minimal cleanup and especially that we did not heat up the kitchen/house in our continuing triple digit temps. 😀 Your onion rings look delicious.

  7. I love onion rings. I didn’t thaw them when air frying them. Next time, I will try that. I try not to buy them too often because I like them too much! These look delicious!

  8. We don’t like the mess of frying onion rings in oil (and thus only eat it when we’re in a restaurant) … but just look at your perfectly air-fried onion rings … and I still have not bought me one!

    • I was amazed at how perfect they turned out, without all that grease and what’s funny is they were as delicious as any restaurant we have ordered them from. Thank you! ❤️

    • Yes they sure did and I was really surprised. This first thing my husband said was “Wow, these are so crispy.” I will be making them in my air fryer again. Thank you Paul!❤️

  9. We don’t own an air fryer, our oven has a setting and I think I’ll try these. If they flop, I’ll do them at my DIL…she air fry’s all the time.

  10. These look delicious Diane – thick onion rings and I could sit and eat that whole plate of them right now. I laughed at your line: “I was too hungry to make them one layer at a time so I balanced them on top of each other so they were barely touching the other onion rings.” (Sounds like something I’d do if I cooked.)
