Fresh Fruit Wash Solution

Using this Homemade Fresh Fruit Wash Solution is a great way to help in killing bacteria, mold spores and to wash away any leftover chemicals or pesticides. This will also help to keep the fruit fresh longer. If you buy organic your fruit may not have any pesticides or chemicals, but it can still have unwanted mold spores or bacteria.

Place your fruit in a colander then

rinse and drain well, do not cut the fruit.

Pour white vinegar and

water into a large bowl.

(1 part white vinegar to 10 parts water)

Add the fruit and let it soak

for at least 10 minutes.

Drain the vinegar and water solution,

do not rinse the fruit. You will not taste

the vinegar once it dries. Lay the fruit

on a towel or paper towels until

completely dry.

Place the dry fruit into a bowl with a lid.

Place a folded over paper towel on top

of the fruit and cover the bowl tightly

then refrigerate.

Ingredients

  • 3# fruit, do not cut
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 5 cups cool water

Directions

  1. Place the whole fruit into a colander and rinse with cool water and then drain well.
  2. In a large bowl add the white vinegar and water. (One part white vinegar to 10 parts water.)
  3. Place the fruit into the water solution and soak for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Drain the water solution but do not rinse. You will not taste the vinegar once the fruit dries.
  5. Place the fruit on a towel or paper towels and air dry thoroughly.
  6. Place the dry fruit into a bowl and lay a paper towel on top, put the lid on and refrigerate. My grapes were still fresh a week later.

  1. What a brilliant and easy way to wash your fruit. My dad used to rinse and wash the fruit in salt water but I can see vinegar doing the trick too. I will admit I just two quick washes in water cuz I’m always in a rush in the mornings. 😊😆

  2. This works great with blueberries, but I find that strawberries and blackberries are too fragile for washing ahead like that. Have you had any problems with that?

    • I have always been paranoid about buying things like grapes where everyone touches them. This makes me feel like I am not eating what was on other peoples hands, especially since Covid. Thank you Linda❤️

      • I have not bought grapes in years, even if they are in those bags, as the bags were still put there by people and besides, all the black widow spiders. I’ll eat what you peel off – otherwise, not comfortable with it.
