Bacon wrapped around maraschino cherries, speared onto a skewer and air fried for one delicious appetizer. My blogger friend at http://www.wetanddustyroads.com posted a picture of these only they cooked theirs over a campfire. Well you know me, they looked easy enough to make but I had to try them in the air fryer and they turned out great!

    • I was so excited to try these Janet. What a fun appetizer. Then I had my granddaughter chop up the remaining bacon and I air fried it. I freeze it for when I want to add bacon to a recipe with no fuss. Win-Win!

  1. 👏👏 … Diane, I’m impress! They look exactly the same as ours that were on the fire! And as I’ve said before, they surely taste better than ours! Well done 🔥.

  2. Like you, Diane, I follow Berto and Corna’s wetanddusty roads site and remarked on this as a completely improbable but actually quite logical dish.

I have been promising myself to have a go at it or something like it but I am so glad to see you have done the hard work for me.

I don’t have an air fryer but I am thinking through a line of Berto and Corna’s braai and your air fryer that perhaps a conventional oven would work. I am also dreaming up all sorts of recipes involving pork / bacon and cherries, I think there must be a casserole or something in there. I know you’re the cook here so get your thinking cap on!

  3. Now this is what I call an interesting (but delicious) food combo! It goes to show anything tastes good with bacon!

  4. Hi Diane and thanks for the compliment.

I have been accused of many things in my life (mostly true) but never thinking! Odd ideas just flick across my frontal lobe now and again. As I said, you’re the cook here so get your chef’s hat on and work out something larger than Corna and Berto’s delightful nibble. I am thinking maybe a slow roasted gammon joint with a cherry sauce but it’s up to you. You have the cooking smarts to do it, I don’t.

I know that, being as adventurous a cook as you are, this idea is going to niggle at you until you do something with it and I can’t wait to see what you come up with, please post a photo when you do it.

  5. [Hi Diane – I apologize for my tardiness in commenting. I am many days behind in Reader thanks to a major computer malfunction at work. On May 20th, our Outlook crashed and we lost our ability to e-mail for about five days, plus lost all our data; we went from Outlook and Word 2010 to Office 365. I’ve spent a great deal of my own time troubleshooting with the I.T. guy and spent most of the long holiday weekend doing yardwork. So now I will try my best to get through a massive amount of blog posts.] Well look at you going all fancy on us Diane. I would have never thought of that combo (chocolate and cherries maybe). It’s coming up cherry time in Michigan.

    • I can’t believe how many computer issues you have to deal with. That must be so frustrating Linda. I too am behind on my reader. Just writing up recipes has been difficult. I can’t wait until I am feeling back to myself again, four weeks left of recovery!

      • We have a ton of computer issues and it is related to the computer guy, who is very nice, but when he’s not able to figure something out, he abandons it, plus he is not good at regular maintenance – never has been, so then you have problems. I am resentful of is ineptitude and what it does to my personal time. As I’ve gotten older I look forward to my personal time and don’t want work encroaching. I was wondering how you were feeling – that is a long time left for recovery. You are always busy, it must be difficult to have to just lighten your load for now. A fellow walker told me their daughter is a nurse and she had a hip replacement two weeks ago and has another two weeks before going back to work. I said “did I hear you right – she is going back to work in four weeks?” He said “well, they said she could return to work in two weeks, but she is a nurse so does some heavy lifting and bending and moving about, so they said that she needed four weeks post surgery.” That amazed me. He said she went home the day after the hip replacement. I think they expect you to recover much quicker than in the past. Take care of yourself Diane.

      • Everyone I know that has had a hip replacement says how easy and how quickly they recover. Knees are a different story. I’ve had both mine replaced. Why doesn’t your boss hire a different computer tech?

      • I’m amazed about the quick recovery for hip replacements. My mom had one in 1981 and was in the hospital three weeks (and a week before they had her get out of bed). The second one was more complicated as they had to remove the old prosthesis and put in a new one and build it up with bone from the bone bank, but she was sent home after two weeks, and up the next day. But my mom had orthopedic issues to begin with as she was hit by a car at age 11. I’ve heard knees are different and a more difficult operation due to the bending/flexing, etc. I’ve asked/suggested we get someone else, to no avail. The computer tech is a very nice guy, but still … our office looks like the gang who can’t shoot straght!
