Happy Labor Day
How many of you celebrate Labor Day every year and never really know why? Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September in the United States, and honors the American labor movement and the workers who have made our country strong and prosperous. It was created by the labor movement in the late nineteenth century, and became a federal holiday in 1894.
In honor of Labor Day, I have decided not to cook! I hope you are all going to enjoy a fabulous cookout with your close family and friends. Please stay safe and practice social distancing.

Don’t think of it as not cooking. Think of it as social distancing from the stove!

Thank you Anita it was a welcomed break and I got to enjoy my parents company!
The labor movement built the modern middle class–and it needs to be strengthened. Thank you for reminding us what this day celebrates. Happy Labor Day!
You’re welcome Matt!
Happy Labor Day!!
Thanks so much! ❤️
What no cooking today? 😊
Well kind of…lol I took dessert to my parents house so I did make that. I was their first dinner guest since moving back home from Florida. My hubby had to work.
Good for you Diane – did you go out or order in to eat in the cabana?
My parents had me over as my husband had to work. What a nice break!
Yes indeed – you work so hard fixing meals for everyone and the blog – that sure was a nice break!
Thanks Diane.
Hopefully, the reminder of why the day is celebrated will give people some pause to consider just what the Labor Movement & Unions have meant to workers. But, I doubt it, since many people support political candidates who seek to further exploit workers for the benefit of corporations and 1%.
Labor Day holiday is a last chance for summer BBQs and a day off.
Yet, workers around the globe continue to suffer from a multitude of exploitative tactics – STILL much to do!
Amen!!!!
Hope it was a great Labor Day for you. It was a wee bit soggy with rain here but the sun came out around dinner time. Beautiful photo!
Thank you Nancy my husband had to work and my parents had me over for dinner! At least we got to see the sun…lol
I love that you talk about the workers that keep our country’s going!! Hear! Hear! For workers, unions and their rights which are in constant jeopardy!
I’m glad you got a day off, Diane – we have our Labour Day here in Australia next month …
Thank you for sharing, Diane!
