Celebrating My Birthday

FE8E02FF-947E-40FB-B3F6-FAE6484D2A99

Today is my birthday and my husband gave me flowers, new shoes and my favorite cake! I will not be posting a recipe today because we are eating out and I am not cooking!

I wanted to write a post today to warn you there is a possibility I may not post the first week in June as I learn the New Gutenberg Editor. I have been procrastinating my switch to Gutenberg since they started talking about it. I am not very computer literate so this will be a challenge. When I do figure it out, please have patience with me as I learn how to make my site better. It is definitely going to be a challenge, one I am not looking forward to!

Thank you for understanding!

Diane

  1. An happy birthday to you, wishing you long life and prosperity, that cake looks gorgeous and beautiful 😊😊😍😍

  2. Happy Birthday!

I find the new editor time consuming more than anything. While chatting with WordPress I found out that the link to Classic editor will still be there…at the end of the side bar but only after you begin a block.

    • So do I wait till they change it on the 1st then start a block post and then switch to classic? Will it stay on Classic or do I change it with every post? Thank you SO MUCH!!!

      • Before or after from what I understand. Test by going into an older post and click edit. It will ask again. Open a block and scroll right down on same column and click “Classic”.

Don’t save and post will stay the way you found it.

      • This might be clearer and you can check back to it here. πŸ™‚

Along the top right of the New Post & Edit pages it has:
        *Switch to draft
        *Preview
        *Schedule
        *The Settings wheel
        *The Jetpack symbol
        *Then 3 dots

        Click on the dots
        .
        .
        .
This will drop a column with:
        Editor
        Plugins
        Tools
        Manage all reusable blocks
        Help
        *Switch to Classic Editor

      • Yes I found it and I can not thank you enough!!!!! You have not only saved me from quitting but other bloggers I have told as well. You are a life saver. 😘😘😘😘😘😘

      • aw…I just had plenty of time on my hands with hubby back to work … 7hrs away. He’s away for 10 days this time but at least he has a retirement date now. πŸ™‚

I would miss your posts too much if you disappeared of line.

      • Awww you are so sweet! How exciting about his retirement date! I’m glad he’s back to work so you don’t have to worry but I bet it gets lonely when he’s gone that long!

      • Listen to me gripe on…. He can’t do the heavy jobs in the garden when he’s away so I gripe about that. Then when he’s home I look forward to him going to work for a week or two so I can use the computer again – with no conference videos and loud phone calls. hahaha We can’t have everything all the time. πŸ™‚ Nice chatting to you.

    • Thank you! I was told the classic editor isn’t changing only the original one. If I have classic I will be ok….if I only knew if I had classic! πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

  3. Happy Birthday to you my friend! Hope you have a wonderful dinner out!
If you use Classic Editor you may still be okay. It’s the original editor they are eliminating.

  4. Wishing you a wonderful birthday!!! How sweet of your hubby. The cake is so pretty!
Good luck with the editor. It’s not too bad once you get used to it. πŸ™‚

  5. Happy Birthday, Diane! We share the same birthday month! May this coming year be filled with laughter, joy, and love. Blessings on your move and may the technology be simple or at least cooperative! Warmly, C

    • Well Happy Belated Birthday to you Cheryl!!!! I found the classic editor button on the new editor so I am good to go! I may get courageous if I ever get time to learn the new editor but for now, I am set! Thank you Cheryl and have a fantastic day!

  6. Happy Birthday Diane! I hope you had a great day. Good luck with the new editor…..I think I may stay with the old classic editor for awhile longer, until I see what more people think?

    • Thank you Joni! I am definitely using the classic editor. I read a lot about the new one and it sounded so simple, then I tried it and was so overwhelmed I said no way!

      • So far mine is still on classic, but I’m wondering if the migration as the Happiness Engineer called it will be over a week or so or will they change everyone all at once? It’s all so vague……

  7. Happy, happy birthday and am so glad you don’t have to cook.
I have the same problem with editor and am ready to cry. Please do better than me so at least I can still follow your blog.

    • Barb you can start to type a block, then on the side go to tools and scroll all the way down. Click the classic editor button and proceed as normal. Then if you decide to change to the new editor learn it as you can, or not at all! Hope this helps I don’t want to see you quit! ❀️

    • Thank you so much Meenal! I found the Classic Editor button in tools after I typed my recipe title in the block so it is basically the same. πŸ˜„ I still will play around with the new editor when I have time but for now no problem thank God!

  8. Diane, happy birthday! I’m a bit behind in my reading so please forgive my missing it yesterday. Hope you are all well!

  9. Diane – I am late to wish you happy birthday – so here’s to belated birthday wishes and hope it was special. You sure deserve a break for all the wonderful recipe you share from all the meals/dishes you prepare. I was working in the yard over the weekend, logging in 17 hours over two days and nodded off shortly after 8:00 p.m. both weekend nights – I felt like a Mack truck ran over me, and even my fingers hurt after laying 25 bags of mulch. You can identify, I’m sure. πŸ™‚

      • It took me about three days to recover for goodness sake Diane – yes, I knew you’d identify with that project. It looks 100% better. I should have replenished it last year, but I smashed my finger in the garage door the first week of June last year and my finger was sore and I could not do it.

      • Oh yes I remember you doing that! That was horrible Linda. Today was almost 90 degrees. I have been trying to spray my weeds for an entire week. It either rained or was too windy. So today was one of the hottest days but no wind so I had to do it! I sprayed 45 minutes and went inside to the A/C for 15 minutes and then back out to spray more. I started at 1:00 pm and at 5:25 pm my husband yells out a storm is coming and is an hour away. I need a two hour dry time for this stuff to work…ugh. So the last tank of spray and all that work was down the drain! Darn pop up storms! lol I am drained and exhausted from the heat and carrying 25# on my back. Last week I ordered a HUGE roll over container to get rid of over 40 years of stuff. It was delivered today and we have to get it filled in two weeks as they will come back and pick it up. I can’t wait as it will feel so good to clear out things.

      • Yes, it was a big job Diane. I may go out in the backyard to finish up as it will be cool again on Sunday – and it’s shaded from trees (not in my yard, but nice and cool back there) – I was too worn out last week to get the back done. My neighbor has a privacy fence on one side of her yard (insulting to me to be honest) but it cuts off the sun to my roses and they look terrible. Sometimes I think when retired, I’ll start the garden back up and then I see what her fence has done and just say “make it easy on yourself Linda” – in fact my post tomorrow will be about what happened to my garden (all the nasty slugs, blacks spot, rats, Polar Vortex). I hated trying to put any type of insecticide and planning around the weather. All that work not to mention in the heat, nor the cost of the pesticide. We were supposed to have a pop-up storm but it didn’t materialize – next week, several of them thanks to Cristobal. We had a real feel of low 90s like you did. I hope when I’m retired, I can put a dent in the clutter downstairs – it really needs a thorough weeding out. Good for you!!
