Chorizo Burgers

This will become a regular burger in our house from now on! Ground beef mixed with Chorizo, cheddar cheese and seasonings then topped with your favorite kind of cheese. Add all your regular hamburger toppings for a great tasting burger! There is so much flavor in this burger that it has become my favorite burger!

I tripled my recipe and froze the uncooked extra patties. I made three patties for each recipe and they were too large for us. Next time I will make four patties per recipe.

My thanks to Christy as she inspired me to create this burger. Check out her site to see how she made her Chorizo Burger https://afoodieinthesouth.wordpress.com.

  1. That sounds great, Diane. I have never tried that. If people are not familiar with chorizo, I encourage them to try a few brands to find a good one. In the States, I was only familiar with some slimy, little, encased mushes. When I lived in Mexico, I discovered how good it could be. Now, back in the States, I know what I am looking for and it makes all the difference.

    • Interesting I didn’t know there were different types. At our store there isn’t a choice and I buy it in pound packages ground up. All I know is it tasted really delicious and I will be making many more. Thank you ❤️

  2. I’ve mixed in Italian sausage because NOLA Boy is mad for sausage of any kind. Haven’t tried chorizo, though. That’s a splendid hint! Gonna try it, fur sure. ;->

    Virtual hugs,

    Judie

  3. This looks delicious. I love the way you took it and made it your own. I’ m going to definitely have to try yours. I have never thought to put cheese in with the meat… I’ve had it stuffed in a burger, but not mixed in. I love this idea!

    • It worked really well because it just gave the burger more flavor. It didn’t ooze out yet the cheese on top is where you noticed the cheese flavor. I usually have pepper jack cheese but I was out. I wanted to put that on top but the American cheese was also very good on it. Thanks again Christy for making this my new favorite burger! ❤️

  4. This looks so good. I’ve had Spanish Chorizo in other foods but never thought of having some in a burger. The burgers must have had so much flavor. I will give this a try the next time we have burgers.

  5. Diane
Your chorizo burger looks so delish. I am borrowing your idea of freezing the extra patties and your step by step pictures are quite helpful. Thanks

    • Thank you! I did that because we bought a pound of chorizo and I surely wasn’t going to waste it! We thawed out two burgers last night for supper and they were just as good as fresh. I put waxed paper between the burgers and then put them in a freezer bag.

  6. Chorizo on its own is great and a burger is a gift from above. So, a chorizo burger sounds like what they may feed you in heaven. I will give it a try!

    • Breakfast, lunch or dinner!!! Yes they were that good!!!! I am not crazy about hamburgers because I like rare beef but these were fully cooked, not dried out at all and the taste was delicious!

    • It was an amazing taste Tina!!!! I could make a bunch of these and freeze them. We thawed two out for supper last night already! They tasted just as good after freezing them.

    • Oh you have to try this then. I don’t think I will make a regular burger again….that good! Already took one out of the freezer for supper last night…lol They won’t last long. Thanks!

  7. I love chorizo. My favorite burrito is scrambled egg and chorizo. I bet it would be great with meatloaf, too. I used to purchase pre-made burger patties with cheddar cheese and green chilies and bacon in them, or blue cheese, bacon and mushroom. So this recipe sounds great.

  8. Chorizo and eggs is common in Mexican restaurants, as a plate with rice and beans, and as a breakfast burrito with beans and cheese and sometimes rice. I’ve found places that will serve me the breakfast burrito anytime of day 🙂
