WOW did these bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs turn out perfect in the Air Fryer! I can’t believe how simple it is to make them this way. The skin was crispy and the meat was so moist! My chicken thighs were ready in about 30 minutes.

Cook another 5 – 10 minutes or until

each piece is at least 165 degrees. I

removed three pieces and cooked the

other 2 pieces another 2 minutes to get

them done. Keep an eye on the internal

temperature so they don’t get over cooked.

Ingredients

  • 4 – 5 chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
  • Your favorite seasonings such as herbs, salt, pepper etc.
  • olive oil

Directions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
  2. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towel.
  3. Brush the thighs with olive oil.
  4. Lay them skin side down on a plate and season the bottom of each thigh. Turn the thigh over, skin side up, and season that side too.
  5. Spray the tray of the air fryer with cooking oil.
  6. Place the thighs, skin side down, onto the hot tray in a single flat layer.
  7. Cook for 20 minutes. Turn the thighs over, skin side up.
  8. Cook another 5 – 10 minutes or until each piece is at least 165 degrees in the middle. I checked mine at 25 minutes and all but 2 were done. I left the larger pieces in the fryer for 2 more minutes. Watch them carefully so you don’t overcook them then serve immediately.

  1. The only problem I have with an air fryer is that you can only fit a few chicken inside it. For a family of five who likes to keep extra chicken in the refrigerator for the kids, this could stress me out so I throw all in the oven. But air fryer does make good chicken.

    • Oh I bet! It would stress me out too. It would take an hour to cook 2 batches so you might as well use the oven or fry them. I did get 5 thighs in mine though.

  2. Can‘t agree more. I love my air fryer.
Made tandoori chicken thighs that were moist inside and crispy outside. I usually avoid them, even at my favorite Indian restaurant, because they are tough and dry.

  3. We have an Air Fryer and LOVE IT too. It cooks so fast it is amazing. We also have an Insta-Pot which we have used for pressure canning small batches of garden foods as well as crockpot style cooking. We tried a beef roast in the Air Fryer and WOW – we like our beef med-rare to rare and it cooked it perfect, juicy, and really tender – yum! Your chicken looks perfect!

  6. Diane – I went on your actual site as I could not post a comment (it kept getting rejected), so that is why you’ll get duplicate comments.

  7. All of these new appliances intrigue me, particularly this one because I confess that I love many fried foods. But the idea of having yet another appliance to find a home for keeps me from buying one.

  8. Hi Diane
    Mmmmmm
Your chick thighs came out great
This is a staple in our house – the skin gets so crispy and like you said – the meat is moist
    – and we sometimes add chili powder – well most of the time we do – with a good sea salt and dash of pepper

    Happy eating 😊
