In almost three years of blogging, I have only posted one recipe that I didn’t like the taste. Normally if I make something that isn’t fantastic, I don’t post it. Today will be recipe #2. Why am I still posting it……read on!

I have decided to try to eat healthier (don’t worry I will still be posting amazing recipes) and I am seeing a nutritionist. Now keep in mind she is 90 pounds soaking wet and very short. I have known her since she was a little girl. Everything she had to say was common sense but then she tried to talk me into cooking my food differently. I knew this wasn’t going to be good. After all, I have figured out how to cook delicious food after decades of practice.

She asked me to just try two recipes, this is one of them. There is nothing wrong with this recipe except that it is made with plain non fat Greek yogurt. I told her I love Greek yogurt but not plain….yuck! She said I will love this coleslaw because it is made with dry ranch salad dressing too. She told me I won’t even be able to tell it is plain yogurt when I taste it. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m not a big fan of Ranch Dressing either, but I kept an open mind and made it.

My husband was excited because he LOVES coleslaw. It was very easy to make, it was creamy and looked fantastic. I was excited but then I tasted it…..ugh! It is not that it was bad tasting, unless you don’t like plain Greek yogurt and Ranch Dressing. If you like these two ingredients, you will probably love this!

So to all my followers that eat very healthy (Yes I keep looking at your blogs for ideas), this one is for you! As for me, I will stick to my original way of making coleslaw!

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME INFORMATION, RECIPES OR ADVICE ABOUT EATING HEALTHY. THANK YOU!

  1. Diane, I have been eating healthier for 3 years now. Or trying to. The last few months I fell way off.
The hardest part for me is changing my way of cooking as well. Cooking Healthy isn’t as COMFORTING. Not nearly as comforting.
Thanks for sharing the recipe and the story.

    • I will never be a healthy cook. I just can’t comprise taste and eat food that doesn’t taste good. I am eating healthier with recipes like the chicken and veggies I made the other day. It is possible to have great taste with a healthy recipe but just not this one! Kudos to you for trying and I’m sure succeeding on healthier cooking. I know you must feel better.

  2. It’s a funny coincidence, but I actually have every ingredient in this coleslaw in my refrigerator right now. I always keep Greek yogurt around, but I never think to make a salad dressing out of it. What a marvelous idea.

    • I have used it in corn muffins and it was very good, but for some reason I did not like it this way. If you like plain yogurt then you will probably like this. Me….never again! If you make it let me know what you think.

  3. Thank you for your honesty. Those that say a healthy food tastes as good as a less-than-healthy similar one have tricked their tastebuds into believing it to be true. Good for them. They’ll outlive me but I can die with a mouthful of partying tastebuds and a happy tummy.😀

    • I wasn’t going to even post it because it tasted so nasty. But then I know some healthy people like this sort of thing especially since it was given to my by a nutritionist! I can’t help to think she missed something…..like flavor! 🤣😂🤣

  4. Haha, I fully with you on that 👍.
When I first came to the US in 95, I was amazed on the huge selection of low-fat dairy in the supermarket. Americans seemed so much more health-conscious than Germans – until I saw the sugar amounts in those yogurts.

  5. Lol, this made me laugh. I have the same reaction every time I try to make a healthier dish.

I think my tastebuds are trained to only like fats and sugar! 🤣🤣🤣

    • It was nasty! We threw the entire bowl of it away! One more “healthy” recipe to try. Not looking forward to it but we already bought it. Never again! I wasn’t born to eat healthy!

  6. I have tried yogurt many times in my healthy recipes. Even though I like Greek yogurt I do not like it in my recipes. Too sour for me. So I find other healthy alternatives. 😀

    • YESSSSSS!!!! You nailed it, it was too sour. Wow if you don’t like it then I know I’m not crazy. When I make my own yogurt it is plain too. Then I add jam to flavor and sweeten it. OK don’t judge me! 🤣😂🤣 Have you ever made your own yogurt? It is so easy. I use my dehydrator to make mine. Then I put them in jelly Mason jars. Someday I will do a post on it.

  7. That is funny, Diane. We are accustomed to our eating styles, yes? Hope you haven’t been flooded with advice! 😄

    • Definitely going to try this! And thank you for being one of my first followers! I appreciate it and hope my blog brings you or anyone you know value 🙂 I can’t wait to try out your other recipes too!

      • Thank you Kat! Make sure you taste the dressing before you add it to the coleslaw to make sure you like it. I wasn’t a fan of the plain yogurt taste. If you love plain yogurt you will probably love it. Give me fruit and sugar…lol

  8. Yes, experts will say to eat the plain yogurt and add your own fruit or whatever to it – it has no taste – better to get the one with a little vanilla for a little taste. I like Greek yogurt too for the consistency.

  9. I’m not a fan of plain Greek yogurt, either and I only like ranch on chips and potato skins. I just couldn’t imagine putting these together in coleslaw.

    • It is definitely healthy as the nutritionist told me but I don’t like plain yogurt so this isn’t one I will make again. If you like plain yogurt you will probably like this. Thank you Lisa!

  10. With all due respect to nutritionists everywhere, if radical measures are not needed (and sometimes, they are), I say common sense and moderation in everything. I do believe in using fresh food, organic when possible for fresh produce in particular, and I don’t use processed food. But one needs to enjoy life, too.

    • I wish I liked plain yogurt. It looked so good and we were excited to eat it…..but then we did! Won’t be making this one again. I guess if you don’t like something don’t make something with it. If you like plain yogurt, unlike us, give it a try. Thanks!

  11. Reading the comments that came in after mine, I recalled all the different foods that the “experts” have declared unhealthy over the years that have done an about face—wine, coffee, butter, eggs, steak, etc. They had us go with lower fat, but had to add sugar to make the foods marginally palatable. Transfat versus saturated fat. The controversies continue through out the food industry. The bottom line is usually greed. We can’t even trust scientists/doctors to be honest because so many are paid by various industries. End of rant!😉
