Retirement

This is it…..my last day of work today and then I will be retired!!!!! I have spent a lot of time taking my clients to see this view of our bay and now I can enjoy it with my husband! My husband doesn’t retire for 5 more years (I am retiring early) but now we will have time to have more fun. It always seemed like when I worked he was off and when he worked I was off. In November we will be married for 29 years.

I don’t know how retirement will improve my website but I am definitely going to spread my wings. First thing I need to do is figure out the new block editor. Maybe I will even try adding a video to some of my recipes. I definitely will be experimenting with pasta and maybe even breads. I want to learn how to make macaroons……oh the possibilities! Time will tell and I now have all the time in the world!

  1. Congratulations on retirement. You will definitely enjoy it. I have been retired almost 20 years now. My cooking skills improved and as you can see my little craft business exploded. Enjoy every minute…and especially enjoy life with husband and family.

  2. How wonderful! Good for you! This is also my husband’s last week of work! August 2, exactly 48 years to the date, will be his last day! He has worked for the same company (food industry) all these years (changed hands once). He had 2 (yes, 2!!!) sick days in 48 years! I am extremely proud of him. We will celebrate 45 years of marriage in December. Our ‘new normal’ is about to happen!

    • Oh Cindy how exciting for you both! They don’t make workers like him anymore. Today if they get a week sick leave they make sure they take it, sick or not. You have a wonderful man at your side. Congratulations on 45 years of marriage! That is another thing that doesn’t happen much anymore. Enjoy your time together.

  3. Congratulations Diane! That is so wonderful! I know you will be truly missed,. You’re so creative and talented, and I look forward to seeing all the possibilities!

    • Thank you very much! My developmentally challenged clients didn’t really grasp the concept yet. However, my autistic mom cried. It is a huge guilt trip as now they have to find somebody else but it is time to enjoy the years I have left by having fun.

  4. Pace yourself any have many hobbies. I retired too early so had to think of something to do loosing 45k a year job to pensioner is hard. Gardening so buy house with massive gardens was the only way .Found the house was but a tumbled down shack so shocked I wanted to go home to England. Then a good talk with myself and in i went head first to glory .Now can enjoy my pension at last .Still building gardens but pacing it all out at 68 doing my health far better than most of may age. It all depends on you. Congratulations you made it at last. Enjoy if you ever need to talk here I am.

    • You are so sweet Kevin! I am 60 and will definitely have lots of hobbies. I have so much I want to do while I am still young enough to be able to physically do them. We definitely want to do some traveling. Life is wonderful! Thank you so much!

  5. Congratulations on your retirement, Diane, and for 29 years of marriage! I took early retirement two years ago, and absolutely love the freedom from work stress and more flexibility in time spent with my spouse! Have a wonderful time enjoying the next stage of your life! I know you won’t regret it!!

    • Thank you so much Anita! I am already realizing the lack of stress. My husband doesn’t retire for 5 years as he is providing our healthcare, we are 60 years old. I wish we had a way for him to retire too but not with what insurance costs. I am looking forward to doing so many things.

      • I am 60 this year, as well! 😊. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that your husband can retire sooner and still have the health insurance benefit! 😊. Again, enjoy your new freedom!!

  6. Yay for you! Hope you enjoy having a bit more time. And, Block Editor takes a little getting used to, but its kind of nice once you do. There are a couple of add-on plug-ins that give you more kinds of blocks to choose from also.
    All the Best!
    Gwen

    • Thanks Gwens! Do you know if I am locked into it once I try it or can I switch back? I thought I read we will have to change over to it regardless by a certain deadline.

      • Hi Diane,
No! Not locked in. Just keep your Classic Editor Plug-in in case you don’t like using blocks. I believe you can even choose which you want to use if both are activated. I had heard that Classic would be disappearing, but I think lots of folks don’t like the blocks, and it may not happen any time soon. All the Best.
p.s. Let me know if I can help. I’m not an expert, but I manage three WordPress sites at present, so I have a fair bit of experience.

  7. I’m actually tearing up so happy for you! So much time and hard work is finally paying off for you! God bless you in your retirement!!

    • Thank you so much!!! I worked in a bakery in my teen years. Then for 20 years I worked at the Gas Company. There I learned how to run a backhoe, dump truck, jack hammer, repair and replace gas lines, respond to a tornado and even running a crew of men. It all came so easy but I worked hard. Then I was hurt and disabled for quite a few years. Once I physically could I started my own business with just myself helping developmentally disabled adults. I had autistic, cerebral palsy and mentally challenged clients. I did that for over 10 years. It’s been a wonderful working life but I am ready to have fun!

  8. Wow, Diane, so good to see you’re so exciting with your blog after your retirement! I’m looking forward to see your videos, I would be drooling more to see your delicious recipe made on video 😀 Good luck Diane!

  9. CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement! I’m so thrilled for you, my friend, and wish you all the very best on your new “life”! Can’t wait to tune into your next adventures!

  10. Congratulations on the retirement!
Using blocks is pretty easy once you figure it out. And that doesn’t really take long, just a few hours of sitting and working through it. 🙂 I like it so much more than the classic.

  11. Such a beautiful view! I hope you get to do all that you set out to do now that you’re retired!

    • We certainly plan too. We get some beautiful sunsets but this one was amazing and it only stayed like this for about 10 minutes. I’m so glad I took the picture before it changed! Thank you for your kind wishes! ❤

  12. Congratulations on your Retirement! I retired in Jan. of 2016. I seem to be busier now than when I was working! Just sayin’ ! I wish you and your hubby the best in your retirement…my hubby retired almost 10 years before I did! I went back to work when he retired!!! Now we are just meandering people enjoying each other’s company again! Blessings to you Diane!

    • My husband retires in 5 years. I may go back to work then too! hahahaha But seriously, we are looking forward to doing things like travel and having the time together. Life can be so short. Thank you so much Cheryl!

  13. Dear Diane, I wish to say “Bravo!” for your decision to what I call “jubilation” not retirement! You will not regret it. In a similar situation, I have bloomed to my true self and my husband of 34 years love me even more. You know, the editor block in WordPress is optional…I look forward to your refreshed blog now that you are liberated. My best wishes to you both. The adventure will amaze you both, sincerely yourscribeforlove.

    • Jubilation! A wonderful way to look at it. I thought we have to change to the editor block by this year? I didn’t think we had a choice. It would be wonderful if I don’t have to worry about changing. Thank you so much for your nice comment Patricia!

  14. Good for you, Diane! I retired 16 years ago. Just a year or two early. Helen retired quite early, a bit over 4 years ago…just so we could be together a lot more. Though, I must say 1 working when the other is retired is still mellower than 1 working when the other is between jobs and looking. :-] We’ll be married 26 years in September.

Yes, I’m an old geezer on the outside. Not so much in between the brain cells. Nicest part is that we complement each other in style; but, share many interests.

Glad to welcome you to retirement, It’s a great place to be on your road through life. As it proceeds, the best part IMHO is all the more interests you discover now that you have time to look. And the sharing part – when you’re both retired – is incomparable.

    • You do know we are in a rare group of people don’t you. To be married 26 & 29 (in Nov,) years and still be in love with our spouse. My husband only works to provide health care for us, he is wonderful! I am 60 so I am retiring 2 years early. I’m so happy for you to have such a great relationship with Helen! Thank you for the nice comment!

      • congrats to you both for the 26 & 28 years of marriage –
my hubs and I have been married 23 and 1/2 years – we are right behind y’all

      • well not to be preachy (and dang – so many christians can be preachy, rude, bitchy and down right pushy and mean – so I preface with that) I do give God all the glory for our union and for the way he has blessed it – ahhhh

and wishing you and yours a wonderful retirement together – how awesome

  15. Congratulations Diane! You will love retirement! So much more time to do new things and try new recipes. I’ll be anxiously awaiting your bread! I made your Blueberry Lemon Quick Bread the other day and it was good, although I didn’t put the glaze on it because I didn’t have any icing sugar, but it was still very good! PS. I still have not figured out how to do videos, they never seem to upload for me.

    • Thank you Joni! I actually have a fear of doing the videos. I always like to conquer any fear..lol I have seen You Tube videos and then there is the videos I can put in the files. It should be fun trying! I just upgraded to the business plan JUST because I was running out of storage.

      • Videos would be great for a cooking blog. I tried to input a flower video into my blog off my cell phone but couldn’t get it to upload, although the Happiness Engineer said it was in the correct format? I only have premium plan and lots of storage left….I’ll probably run out of blogging topics first….
