Honey Custard French Toast

I have never made French Toast with Honey Custard before and it was delicious! This recipe will feed 6 people or you could freeze any leftovers. I could eat this Honey Custard French Toast for any meal, not just breakfast.

Ingredients – Butter for browning too.

In a large bowl whisk the eggs.

Add the honey, milk, cinnamon

and salt to the eggs.

Whisk really well until the honey and

cinnamon are completely mixed in.

This will take a couple of minutes.

This is now the custard.

Melt about 1 Tbsp of butter in a

large frying pan over medium heat.

Place the bread into the custard.

Soak up the custard briefly, turning the

bread over to briefly soak the other side too.

Cook the bread until it is golden brown.

Turn over and brown the other side too.

Remove to a plate and keep warm.

Add another tablespoon of butter

with each addition of bread.

Place on a serving plate

and serve with honey.

 

Honey Custard French Toast

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced into 12 pieces 3/4” thick

Directions

  1. In a large bowl whisk the eggs.
  2. Add the honey, milk, cinnamon and salt to the eggs. Whisk really well so that all of the honey and cinnamon are mixed in, this will take a couple of minutes and will become the custard.
  3. In a large frying pan or griddle, melt 1 Tbsp of butter over medium heat.
  4. Place the bread into the custard so the bread can briefly soak up the custard, turning over to briefly soak the other side too.
  5. Cook about 3-4 pieces of the soaked bread in the butter until golden brown turning over to brown the other side too. Remove to a plate and keep warm.
  6. Add another 1 Tbsp of butter and repeat steps 4 & 5.
  7. Place on a serving plate and serve with honey.

  1. I’ve done something similar using nutmeg, but less sweetener. I found that the outside got too brown before the inside was cooked through. Maybe I was using too hot a temperature, which was 350° on an electric frying pan.

  2. Again, something delicious AND feasible. Have you ever tried to make this recipe with a different kind of bread, Diane. I can imagine it would be tasty even with whole wheat, or raisin bread.
