Amish Chocolate Pudding
“Old Fashion” Amish Chocolate Pudding just like I remember as a kid. Only four simple ingredients and one great taste! It tastes nothing like those little plastic cups of chocolate pudding full of preservatives and whatever else they put in there. This is the type of pudding that forms a skin on top unless you cover it with plastic wrap.

Ingredients
In a small pot heat the milk over medium
heat until it boils, stirring frequently.
While the milk cooks, in a small bowl
combine the rest of the ingredients.
Once the milk boils, add a little to the
dry mixture whisking until smooth.
Add a little more of the boiling
milk, whisking until smooth.
Pour the chocolate mixture
into the boiling milk.
Stir constantly until the
pudding boils and turns thick.
Pour the pudding into a bowl.
If you want a skin on the pudding,
don’t cover it and refrigerate it. If you
don’t like a skin, place a piece of plastic
wrap directly on top of the hot
pudding and refrigerate.
Once cold, spoon the pudding into serving bowls.
Top with whipped cream (optional) and serve.

Delicious😋
Thank you!
You are welcome mam♥️
All this chocolate lately!!!! I’m craving it so bad now. This is delicious. I know because I make a chocolate pudding pie that’s similar.
Oh those pie’s are so good! I like this recipe because it doesn’t make a lot. It was perfect for my husband, me and the 2 grandkids!
Reminds me of my mother’s pudding when I was a child. 🙂
Those were the days!
Yes, homemade pudding with skin. )
You and my husband…lol I don’t like the skin so he gets it all.
I don’t remember ever making cooked pudding, but I sure didn’t know it was that easy! I love your step by step pictures.
Thank you Robin it is so easy and the taste is so good!
I’ll try it soon. We both like pudding occasionally. 🙂
This looks so delicious. I love the natural ingredients too.👌
Me too! Thank you Vivian!
That ALMOST looks too good to eat!!!! 😎😎😎😎
With a husband, two grandkids and myself it definitely got eaten…hahahahaha Thank you Valerie!
Yum-o!!
Oh yes it was…hahaha
I have never tried making pudding before (Though I’ve had it about a million times!). This will be a new one! And this recipe is so very easy! Thanks for posting this!
Oh definitely give this one a try Jess. Here’s a hint to take less time…Heat the milk in the microwave first to get it hot then pour it into the pan to boil. So much quicker!
Oh thank you! I’ll definitely try this and do a post on how it turned out. I am going to do a post soon about all the things I’ve tried making in the past few weeks and how some of them miraculously turned out to be pretty good!
Thanks once again! 🙂
I can’t wait to read them! I’m not surprised at all that they turned out great! After all my years of cooking I still have my fails, I just don’t tell anyone…hahahaha So when that does happen, chalk it up to a great learning experience, I do!
Thank you for your support!
I know this recipe by heart. This was something my mother taught me and I have been making it ever since. It sometimes amazes me that simple recipes that were common are now not being made. It is just as easy to make pudding from scratch as it is to buy a mix. I guess that just shows the power of commercials and marketing. Anyways thanks for sharing this.
You are so right! Everybody is so busy they think they have to buy their food already prepared when it takes hardly any time to make. Then the fact there is no chemicals or or preservatives, how can you go wrong!
Admit it, Diane, some wizard has cast a spell on you and you are compelled to stay in the kitchen 24/7 conjuring up endless and delectable meals with just a few ingredients. Once again, great stuff!
Hahahaha sometimes it feels like it. What’s funny is I have had 5 hospital stays since last year and still blogged from the hospital….3 times was surgery and I was out for hours! Call me crazy…..lol I haven’t missed a day blogging since I started so it’s a challenge to keep it going. I love a good challenge!
Well, keep up the good work, Diane. It is always much appreciated.
I remember pudding with a skin on it too – you bring back nice memories.
Thanks Linda! My husband loves pudding with the skin. When I make it for him he is one happy man! Lol
Mmmmm! Looks great – the way pudding should be! We make our pudding extra decadent by adding a tablespoon of smooth peanut butter while it is still warm. So good!
Lovely pudding ! Looks so tempting.
Thank you Megala!
4 ingredients? That’s it?! I’ve never made chocolate pudding from scratch, and I had no idea how few ingredients it has. (You don’t get that impression by looking at the list of ingredients on a box of pudding mix!)
I know it’s crazy what all they put in the box mixes!
This sounds delicious, Diane. I grew up adding store-bought packages with a powder to hot milk to make pudding, and those were very good, but they probably still contained several artificial ingredients. This is so straightforward, I will definitely try it.
I’m definitely trying this ! Thanks!
Delicious and still so easy to make! ♥
