Amish Chocolate Pudding

“Old Fashion” Amish Chocolate Pudding just like I remember as a kid. Only four simple ingredients and one great taste! It tastes nothing like those little plastic cups of chocolate pudding full of preservatives and whatever else they put in there. This is the type of pudding that forms a skin on top unless you cover it with plastic wrap.

    • Oh definitely give this one a try Jess. Here’s a hint to take less time…Heat the milk in the microwave first to get it hot then pour it into the pan to boil. So much quicker!

      • Oh thank you! I’ll definitely try this and do a post on how it turned out. I am going to do a post soon about all the things I’ve tried making in the past few weeks and how some of them miraculously turned out to be pretty good!
        Thanks once again! 🙂

      • I can’t wait to read them! I’m not surprised at all that they turned out great! After all my years of cooking I still have my fails, I just don’t tell anyone…hahahaha So when that does happen, chalk it up to a great learning experience, I do!

  1. I know this recipe by heart. This was something my mother taught me and I have been making it ever since. It sometimes amazes me that simple recipes that were common are now not being made. It is just as easy to make pudding from scratch as it is to buy a mix. I guess that just shows the power of commercials and marketing. Anyways thanks for sharing this.

    • You are so right! Everybody is so busy they think they have to buy their food already prepared when it takes hardly any time to make. Then the fact there is no chemicals or or preservatives, how can you go wrong!

  2. Admit it, Diane, some wizard has cast a spell on you and you are compelled to stay in the kitchen 24/7 conjuring up endless and delectable meals with just a few ingredients. Once again, great stuff!

    • Hahahaha sometimes it feels like it. What’s funny is I have had 5 hospital stays since last year and still blogged from the hospital….3 times was surgery and I was out for hours! Call me crazy…..lol I haven’t missed a day blogging since I started so it’s a challenge to keep it going. I love a good challenge!

  3. Mmmmm! Looks great – the way pudding should be! We make our pudding extra decadent by adding a tablespoon of smooth peanut butter while it is still warm. So good!

  4. 4 ingredients? That’s it?! I’ve never made chocolate pudding from scratch, and I had no idea how few ingredients it has. (You don’t get that impression by looking at the list of ingredients on a box of pudding mix!)

  5. This sounds delicious, Diane. I grew up adding store-bought packages with a powder to hot milk to make pudding, and those were very good, but they probably still contained several artificial ingredients. This is so straightforward, I will definitely try it.
