With the temperature getting cooler outside it’s time for soup. This Chili recipe is one my husband has made for me since we were married. We also use this same Chili recipe to make Cincinnati Chili (Chili over pasta with cheese).

Here is the link to the Cincinnati Chili recipe if you’re  interested.

  1. Chili is a cold weather staple at my house. Very similar recipe that I use – I’ll put in a Green Pepper and occasionally throw in a jalapeno to spice it up a bit. Another great idea that we love at our house is to add some Velveeta cheese to your bowl once you dish up your Chili. Very tasty – Velveeta melts really well and blends nicely. Grated/shredded cheese just clumps up and makes a mess. Wow – I’m hungry now 🙂

    • Oh yes cheese and then we put it over spaghetti! My husband suffers with no green pepper because it is one of the very few vegetables I don’t like. Bless his heart because he is a green pepper junkie!

  2. 28 years married, congrats! That’s so sweet that he makes it for you. I find when you do most of the cooking (happily, though!) the special dishes your partner makes for you seem all the more special 🙂

    • Oh definitely! I love cooking and blogging but it’s nice to get a break once in a while. He is the grill master too. It’s a standing joke with my daughter. One day he was working and I said how about steak on the grill. She said Mom, Dad’s working! I explained when you want your loved one to do something always make them think they are the only one that can do it well…hahahaha So we always tell him nobody cooks on the grill like you! Thank you so much!

  3. That chili looks wonderful Diane – it got almost as many likes as your Italian food posts. Who can resist chili now that is already cool out … it’s a sure-fire way to warm you up when you’ve been out and about.

      • I just notice when I do my “like” for that post and I figure that gauges people’s favorites … I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who doesn’t like chili., I wonder if chili recipes are regional … I know in the Southwest they probably like it spicier. My mom used to cube up potatoes and cook them right into the chili. Now I’m not sure if that’s a “Canadian thing” or a “Mom thing” but I remember when we moved here to the States and my mom would see chili recipes and she remarked “why don’t they have potatoes in their chili?”

      • I bet you’re right! I have never seen chili with potatoes in it. I would have spiced ours up too but my hubby can’t handle spicy food anymore. Me…bring it on!

      • Yes, that’s unfortunate – it makes a difference for sure. My mom suffered with heartburn for years and the last few years of her life she graduated from OTC Pepcid to prescription Prilosec. Suddenly she could enjoy her spaghetti or lasagna without heartburn the rest of the evening. Even a toasted tomato sandwich became a joy once again.

  4. Ah, you had added canned beans. There was a time someone had made homemade chili, but her beans were almost crunchy because she musta used dry beans that didn’t cook through. I’ll make sure to use canned ones.

    • You can use dry beans but you must soak them in water overnight. Then they would be fine. I personally like the canned chili beans because they add flavor to the chili. My favorite is the hot chili beans.
