Puff Pastry Wrapped Hot Dogs & Kielbasa
These were so much fun to make and a nice change from using a bun. I used puff pastry and I wrapped polish kielbasa and hot dogs for a meal with our grandkids. You can use any type of cooked sausage you want with these. Serve them whole like the picture above, cut them in half or even into bite size pieces and serve as an appetizer.
Ingredients – Also 2 egg whites & water for the egg wash.
Thaw the puff pastry and lay both sheets out flat.
Cut both puff pastry sheets down the middle between the fold lines
making two sheets out of each one giving you four total.
Lay the hot dogs or kielbasa in the middle and slice the edges like the picture above.
Fold the dough over the hot dogs or kielbasa all the way to the end.
You don’t have to be fancy, you can just roll the hot dog
or kielbasa up in the dough instead of you want to.
Place foil on a baking sheet and spray it with cooking oil.
Place the puff pastries on the foil.
Make an egg wash of two egg whites and a teaspoon of water and whisk well.
Brush the entire top and sides of the dough with the egg wash.
Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 25 minutes
or until a golden brown then serve.
I cut mine in half to serve. You can serve them whole,
cut in half or even in bite size pieces as an appetizer.

Ingredients
- 8 hotdogs, cooked sausage or cooked kielbasa the length of the hotdogs (your hot dogs and kielbasa are already cooked when you open the package. No additional cooking is needed for them before baking them inside the puff pastry)
- 1 box puff pastry containing 2 pastry sheets-thawed
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp water
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheets so they are flat.
- Cut both pastry sheets lengthwise between the folds making four long sheets total.
- Place two hot dogs or kielbasa in the center of each puff pastry sheet.
- Make diagonal slices in the pastry on each side of the hot dogs or kielbasa. Fold the pastry strips over the meat starting at the top and continuing to the other end.
- Cover a large baking sheet with foil. Spray the foil with cooking oil. Place the wrapped hot dogs and kielbasa on the foil.
- Make an egg wash by combining the egg white and water and whisking with a fork. Brush the egg wash all over the top and sides of the pastry dough just until wet.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the pastry is a golden brown.
- Serve as is, cut in half or into bite size pieces for an appetizer.

The ultimate pig in a blanket!
Lol you are right!
Brilliant
I’ve been wrapping a hotdog with cheese and condiments into a tortilla (“dogarito”)
Yours are civilized!
Always brilliant!
Wow a tortilla is another great idea for a change of taste! Thanks for the idea! Thanks Ash!
This looks like real fun! ;-> Presume the same method could be used with just about any fairly solid filling – herbed sliced chicken/turkey comes to mind??? We take our own food almost everywhere, so I’m thinking this might be nice for a change from my everyday sourdough French bread.
Virtual hugs,
Judie
Thank you Judie! Yes absolutely any meat filling that is already cooked would work. Have a great weekend!
I love this idea! There’s just something about ready-made buns that I don’t care for. But fresh baked right out of the oven….oh, my!
It was such a nice change!
They look tasty … my mom used to use pastry and wrap it around then seal the bottoms like a blanket. She had cooked breakfast sausages in the and they were called “pigs in a blanket” … loved them.
Oh yes one of my favorites! I do mine in crescent roll dough.
Either way, so tasty … I can remember coming home from work and smelling them when I walked in the door. Heavenly!
Yummy…like those from my birthplace Les Vosges, France.
Thanks! Have a great weekend!
You likewise.
Hello there. been looking to change up our Keilbasa and I will and make a pastry for this today.
Baking the Kielbasa in the puff pastry made it taste extra good! My husband loved it!
Just loved it
Thank you Mistimaan!
Those look so yummy… another tasty recipe from you…😊
Aw thank you so much. You are alway so kind!
Wow! Looks great!
Thank you Valerie! They were so much fun to make!
Ooh, ooh, ooh…and Trader Joe’s Aoli Mustard!
Hahaha haven’t tried their Aoli Mustard yet. May have to plan a day trip!
We do that too. 😊
Awesome! I thought I created something new. Great minds think alike! Hahahaha
Great minds do think alike. 🙂
My husband is German, and his mom makes all kinds of German foods. This is one of her specialties that I started making after we got married 15 years ago.
Wow you’re amazing! I absolutely love puff pastry but it is so easy to buy and keep in the freezer. Some day I will make it. There are very few things I think are amazing store bought but I do love Pepper Farms Puff Pastry. I bet you can whip it up in no time at all!
Ha ha ha! I wish. it still takes time to make. I am with you though. I very rarely make it from scratch. But I have.
Oh I thought you did all the time. Now I don’t feel so guilty…lol
This puff pastry is a dream! I have never used hot dogs in them, ill have to try it. I usually fill mine with ham and cheese 💗🌞😊
They are great to make rectangles and fill with pie filling too!
mmm. it looks wonderful. I also immediately thought of pigs in a blanket when I saw this post. Your version is much classier than the old pigs in a blanket recipe.
Aw you are so kind Sheryl! Thanks you!
Almost something like sausage rolls? Eh, I like how it looks! I’ll try it pretty soon 🙂
Thank you Tammy! It was fun making it like I did.
No probbz D! Haha! I can see!
