Home Grown Strawberries
If you have ever considered planting a strawberry patch….do! We planted ours last year. The first year you plant it, it is very important to pick off all of the flowers so the energy can go into building the plant and not the strawberries. This is so hard to do because you want to eat strawberries but don’t give in! This huge bowl was one days picking and I don’t have a large strawberry patch. Tomorrow I will post my recipe for Old Fashion Strawberry Shortcake!

Diane I’m the absolute worse when it comes to gardening. When is the best time to plant strawberries?
In Ohio we plant them in the spring after the chance of frost passes.
Oh! They look so yummy! I planted some years ago but the sun kept burning them too much. Look forward to your recipe for tomorrow! 😄
I put straw all around my plants and they are growing with my asparagus which are going to seed and ten to shade them slightly. Maybe that has helped. Thank you for your kind comment Sarah!
Looks yummy
First year growing them was a total success!

I know what you mean! It is hard using them in recipes because we just want to eat them!
For sure!

Thanks for sharing!
Good to know. Thanks.
Ha! I have been guilty of eating sun warmed strawberries right off the plant, too tempting!
Now you know they don’t all leave the garden when I pick them..hahaha
Strawberrylicious. 🍃🍓
Good one! Thanks!
Over a period of a couple years, we dumped our grass clippings on a patch of land about 8 x12 feet. It became compost not through any particular effort on our part. But then one year we put several strawberry plants in that plot and they soon took it over. We had an abundant and delicious supply of strawberries that year that we will never forget even though we moved to a new home the following year.
Awesome and I bet the people that moved in after you appreciated it!
So now I know what I’ve done wrong in the past. I always wondered why I never got many strawberries.
Oh yes you have to have a lot of will power the first year.
