Hershey’s Chewy Brownie Cookies
If you love brownies, chocolate chips and cookies then this recipe is for you. It was a recipe I received in the mail from Hershey’s many, many years ago. You probably have all the ingredients in your cupboard already. This recipe makes about three dozen cookies and didn’t last long in our house!
Ingredients
In a large bowl, cream together the shortening,
light brown sugar, water and vanilla.
Add the eggs and stir until
they are mixed in.
Add the flour, cocoa, baking soda
and salt, stirring until combined.
Stir in the chocolate chips.
Drop by heaping tablespoons, 2” apart,
onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for
9-13 minutes or until cookies are set,
but do not over bake. Only bake one
cookie tray at a time on the center rack
of the oven. Cookies should be soft and
moist when done. Cool on the cookie
sheet for 1 minutes then remove to a
covered counter (I used foil). Cool
completely and store in an
air tight container.
Serve warm or at room temperature.

Ohh awesome!! Thank you for sharing these Diane! They look amazing 😋😋😋
OMG my grandkids devoured them! You are so welcome Linda!
Can you suggest an alternative to the shortening? I love brownies, and chocolate chips cookies, and anything Hershey’s but I can’t use the shortening. Any ideas?
Eric you can substitute butter or margarine in equal portions. It will have a much better taste but the texture will change some. I use butter in almost all my baked products but this was a Hershey recipe so I tried it as is.
Looks delicious – and on the day I’ve decided to cut down a bit…… not fair!
My grandkids devoured these and I may have had a few too..lol
Love chewy cookies along with a cup of strong coffee and a book on the side. Best way to relax. Looks great Diane.
Definitely a great way to enjoy them! Have a great week!
Thank you and wish you the same as well.

Hahahaha if there were any left I could have sent them…..sorry gone in one day!
Looks so yummy!! 👌
Thank you Kristen they only lasted one day!
I’m surprised they lasted that long!! 🤣🤣
LOL
Sounds delicious but I rather not touch Crisco and substitute with margarine. 🙂
I totally understand and I am sure they would still taste great. I make substitutions from the original recipe all the time.
Yeah, experiments with switching ingredients are always fun and enlightening. 😁
I love brownie cookies!
I use to make a different recipe that used brownie mix. Then they changed the size of the box and it really ruined the recipe. I found this recipe from Hershey and it is even better!
Those manufacturers are sneaky, they change the size of things all the time and I don’t think people really notice.
I know isn’t it crazy!
Looks yummy!
Thank you so much!
OhMyCookies! Super-yummy 😍
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Sid
Thank you Sid! Have a great day as well!
We tried the cookies yesterday … they are SOOO good!
Aren’t they! Thanks for telling me!
They are all gone now! That’s a new record. 🙂
These sound like the perfect cookie, Diane. Mine will get eaten so fast, I don’t think I’ll need the airtight container, though! LOL! This pandemic has turned me into quite a chocoholic.
That’s why they are all going into the freezer. Lol You’re right Janet another great Hershey recipe.
Chocolatey goodness 🙂
Thanks!
Man oh Man they look good !
Hershey’s is always good in my eyes, I mean mouth! Lol Thank you so much. ❤️
