Homemade Dry Onion Soup Mix
Don’t ever buy Dry Lipton Onion Soup Mix again! This is my copycat version of one pouch of Dry Lipton Onion Soup Mix. My husband and I can’t tell the difference when using my version and is it a whole lot cheaper.
I only make one pouch serving at a time. A lot of the other copycat recipes make a large quantity and then you scoop out the amount you need. I don’t care how hard you shake that jar, the ingredients never come out right! Use my recipe just like you would use any single Dry Onion Soup Mix. However, whenever I use my Homemade Dry Onion Soup Mix, I don’t add any salt to my recipes because there is plenty of salt already in the bouillon to make up for it.
Ingredients
Crush the bouillon by placing it in a bag
and hitting it with a meat tenderizer or
hammer until it is a powder. Add it and
all of the other ingredients to a small bowl
and mix. Use it as you would one dry
pouch of Lipton Onion Dry Soup Mix.

Awesome- I buy that soup mix with some regularity so this is great to have instead!
Thanks!
This is great! Sometimes I get a craving for it. So simple too. I should have known better all these years LOL! Thanks!
I know what you mean! I should have had stock in their company! Not any more!
Nice recipe
Thank you!
This is great. I use onion soup mix a lot esp in the crockpot
Thanks me too! On roasts, chicken and pork!
i love dry onions and usually sprinkle on my salad or over burgers but soup i never thought about it
I use this mix for cooking. I will put a roast in the slow cooker. Mix the soup with a can of beef broth and cook it all day. I add it to my meatloaf, potatoes etc. Even though it is a soup, I have never fixed it for soup…lol
Reblogged this on Die Erste Eslarner Zeitung – Aus und über Eslarn, sowie die bayerisch-tschechische Region!.
😀
You have the best ideas!
Thanks Michele! I just feel anything can be homemade.
fantastic!
Thank you!
Hello. I wrote this down, so I can use this instead of buying it at the store. I have been looking for these types of recipe’s. Thank you for sharing.
Check out my site. I also have how to make homemade powdered sugar, Brown Sugar, Pure Vanilla Extract etc…..
Nice. I will do that. I will be posting my homemade Bisquick recipe. It worked well with the recipe that I made last night.
Nice! I was just looking at your dumpling recipe too!
Thank you! I’ll have to give this a try:)
Please do it is very tasty!
I’ll bring the chips!
You can also get dried onion to make it even more like the soup mix. One of our local food stands sells the dried onion. I also skip the crushing of the bouillon cubes by buying the bouillon powder. They even have a gluten-free one! Making it yourself makes it entirely gluten-free vs the soup mix; which isn’t. We have a lot of the same/similar recipe it would seem. 🙂
I am getting more and more into non processed foods. I can’t wait to retire so I can do even more!
Agreed. I had to change my diet. While I occasionally indulge in “bad” food, I prefer cooking from scratch. I also can food, esp. during the summer
Thank you!
Brilliant. I would have never thought of making a dry soup mix from scratch. We use Herb-Ox granulated bullion, so that removes one step!
Awesome you’re on your way! Thank you Stephen!
It’s for me!
I know as I was posting this I thought of you. Now you have two to pick from.
I’ve tested several of these. The only thing I really use the mix for is the good old foil-wrapped pot roast, but I have friends who swear by it for brisket, too. I am definitely going to try your recipe. Diane.
You’re welcome! I hope you love it as much as we do.
Great recipe! Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
Thank you and you are very welcome!
I’m sure this save quite a bit and with minor changes to the amounts you could make extra “pouches” to store for later use. For me the best part is you know how fresh it is.
Exactly and what ever ingredients I don’t grow I buy from the Amish.
