This is a delicious one dish meal that is easy to make even for beginners. My husband called this a delicious stick to your ribs meal that is very filling. Poor Man’s Chow Mein has been around for many years and will feed a large family at a very reasonable cost. Poor Man’s Chow Mein is made with ground beef and rice as its main ingredients with celery and onion for added flavor.

  1. So many would be grateful for that Poor Man’s Chow Mein too. A food kitchen/ bank near me was looking for recipes with simple ingredients and instructions recently. This is a likely candidate.

  2. We had this all the time growing up in Minnesota. We called it Mock Chow Mein. The recipe did not have the brown sugar in it though. Will have to try it. We loved it.
