Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies

Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside are what make these my favorite Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies. I have made these for decades and they are just like my mom use to make! When I make my cookies I use an ice cream scoop and I make gigantic cookies. I use to make cookies and sell them at craft shows, usually selling out.

Ingredients

In a small bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together.

In a large bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and water.

Beat until creamy.

Add dry ingredients mixing well.

Add oatmeal and raisins.

Mix well by hand.

Drop onto an ungreased cookie sheets by a heaping tablespoon.

Bake in an 375 degree preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.

I drop my cookies with a cookie scoop and bake them for around 16 minutes.

They are done when they turn golden brown.

Serve warm or let cool completely and store in an airtight container.

If you want you can place them into a plastic bag and then into a freezer bag and freeze.

I have found that by double bagging them, after they thaw, they are as fresh as the day I made them.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten with a fork
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups oats, uncooked
  • raisins, to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl whisk together dry ingredients- flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a large bowl combine butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and water. Beat until creamy.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture mixing until combined.
  5. Stir in (by hand) the oats and the raisins.
  6. Drop by tablespoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes or until golden brown.

I make mine with a cookie scoop and bake them for about 16 minutes or until golden brown.

These Freeze well! Place them in a plastic bag once they are completely cool. Then put them in a freezer bag.
