Trudeau Jar Opener
Last week we went for our semi-annual trip to Amish country. I always have to buy a new gadget when we go there. This trip I found this jar opener at the Amish hardware store.
Now that I am getting older, it is difficult to get the lids off of most jars. I have always used the flat rubber pad and they don’t always work for me. I would end up hitting the lid with the back of a heavy knife handle…not too safe!
I really didn’t think that this gadget would work but it was only $5.00 so I thought why not try it. Amazon sells them for the same price. The way it works is you place the rubber strap around the lid of a jar and slide the black adjustable piece to tightened the rubber strap to the jar. Then just use your hand and loosen the lid like you normally would. It worked the first time I tried it! I love it!!!
This is a definite thumbs up to me and if you ever run across one………..buy it!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and I couldn’t open a thing without my grippy, flat rubber pad. I’ll have to add this to my list! Thanks for sharing your find. 🙂
You’re welcome! I was really surprised how much easier it worked than the flat ones. I think it’s the design with the grippers.
Oh, by the way…where did you go? I lived in Erie, PA for awhile, but never made it to Amish country, though I often saw groups of them at the Erie Zoo. 🙂
We go to Amish Country in Ohio. We start at Smuckers Store in Orville, stop at Lehman’s Hardware Store (where I got this) in Kidron and work our way south.

OMG! This is great… I have needed something like this for a long time. Many times struggling with opening a jar and also using the back end of a knife to get things going. I am going to search on Amazon… Thanks!

Nice one. But you could just pour hot water on a jar, and the lid will come right off.
