French Toast

IMG_1241

I can eat French Toast for any meal on any day! All that cinnamon, nutmeg, milk, egg and butter cooked into a thick piece of bread drizzled in syrup….YUM! OK not just any syrup, I need Mrs. Butterworth. I never cared for the real maple syrup. I’ll eat it if that’s all there is, but in our house it’s Mrs. Butterworth!

French Toast is one of the first things my daughter learned how to cook and she did a fabulous job even as a child. I loved it when she was still living home and would make it for me. So give it a try and cook up some French Toast for one of your meals, you won’t regret it.

Ingredients

In a shallow bowl whisk the egg, vanilla,

nutmeg and cinnamon. Stir in the milk.

Heat a non stick pan over medium heat with

a tablespoon of butter. Once the pan is hot

and the butter melts, dip both sides of a

thick piece of bread into the egg mixture.

Don’t leave it there just dip, turn over,

dip the other side and place it in the hot pan.

Once the bread turns golden brown like the

picture above, flip the bread over and cook

the other side until it is golden brown too.

Remove the French Toast from the pan and

immediately put a pat or two of butter on

the hot French Toast. Drizzle with your

favorite syrup and enjoy!

  1. I thought French Toast was just eggs and bread. My mom’s steps: mix the eggs in a bowl, slap the eggs on the bread, and put the bread in the pan. It’s just eggs on bread!!! This proves that my mom doesn’t know how to make french toast…
    But yours looks great!!

    • Depending on where you live different food is fixed differently. This doesn’t mean mom doesn’t know how to cook….lol This is how it is fixed where I live. When you order it in restaurants here they make it this way too. The liquid gets absorbed into the bread and has extra flavor with the cinnamon etc. Very good!

      • My secret is revealed… vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg? My city doesn’t have those… My family accidentally move into a very poor city, and the people NEVER!!! bake cakes… One time my mom wants to bake cookies, but the whole city doesn’t have a cookie tray!! I’m not lying. Why doesn’t my city have a cookie tray? because the people don’t have money to bake cookies!!! My parents are trying to sell our house (including my lab) to move to America, but no buyers, because everybody is so poor… And if I can’t sell my house I can’t get out of this poor city!! So if I want those ingredients, I’ll have to travel to a city nearby. To go to the closest city, it’s a five-hour drive.

      • OMG that does explain it! But then again, I bet nobody is overweight there! We eat too much sugar in the USA and have a huge population of obese people. I hope someday you can sell your house and make your move.

      • Sorry Dan my IPAD crashed on me and deleted your comment about my kitchen and dishes. My kitchen is about 18 feet x 15 feet. I do have a lot of dishes but I also have a wonderful husband that says if I make it he will do the dishes! He gets fed well and never complains about the dishes.

  2. Like you, Diane, I think I could eat French Toast every day and never tire of it! It was one of the first things I learned to cook.
