Chili Mac

I never liked Hamburger Helper but then I tried their Chili Mac and found myself doctoring it up so much that I actually liked it. So I decided I might as well make my own. This is just as easy and quick as making store boxed Hamburger Helper and it’s definitely a whole lot cheaper to make. You can add ground turkey or chicken instead of hamburger if you would like to make it healthier. I made it with ground turkey once and my husband never noticed. We like it spicy so if you don’t like it as spicy, don’t use as much chili seasoning. If you want it spicier, add more.

Cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is no longer pink.

Add the rest of the ingredients, except macaroni, and let it simmer.

Cook the macaroni and add it to the ground beef pan, mixing well, and serve. That’s it! So simple, quick and delicious!

Chili Mac

1# ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

8 oz tomato sauce

1-1/2 cup water, add 1/2 cup more if needed

8 oz macaroni

1 pouch (1.25 oz) original chili seasoning

11 oz can of corn

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

chili powder for garnish or to make spicier

In a large pot over medium heat, boil water. Add macaroni and cook to desired tenderness. While the water is heating up, cook the meat with the diced onion in a large frying pan until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the grease. Add the tomato sauce, corn, water, chili seasoning, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Turn to low and simmer until macaroni is done. Drain macaroni well and add to the hamburger mixture, mixing well. Remove from the heat and let sit a few minutes before serving.

  1. That sounds delicious! Kids love macaroni and cheese! We always have the bowls of Velveeta Macaroni & Cheese that can be microwaved for our granddaughter or she would have a fit. She eats one every time she visits! Thank you for sharing!
