Alaskan Salami With Reindeer Meat

Two years ago my husband and I went to Alaska for our 25th wedding anniversary. One of the things we fell in love with while we were there was the reindeer sausage that was served to us with our breakfast. Although I did not make the salami in the picture’s above, I just had to share our story with you. When we got home from Alaska all we could talk about was how good the reindeer sausage was that we ate. Well that was almost two years ago and we still reminisce about how good it was. When we got home from the trip my husband went on line to check out if anybody sold it around here and no such luck. He found places in Alaska, of course, that would ship it but it was very expensive to ship so we decided to forget about it. A few weeks ago, on one of my Facebook groups, a woman posted a recipe that she made using reindeer meat. This made me relive my enthusiasm for the reindeer sausage we so much enjoyed. I asked her where she bought her reindeer meat and she said she lives in Alaska. She gave me the sites of two of her local places she purchases her meat from. I just had to check them out. We decided to order the Alaskan Salami with Reindeer Meat, Alaskan Sausage Links with Reindeer Meat and Alaskan Sausage with Reindeer Meat (that is shaped like Kielbasa). Now keep in mind, these were not very big packages. The weights of the packages were 12 ounce, 14 ounce and 16 ounce in size. The price for these three packages, shipping and other costs…….almost $75.00! They would be shipped by plane and delivered to our door in two days. They could not guarantee the meat would stay cold due to the shipping company not delivering it on time or mishandling it. We had to buy a reusable Styrofoam cooler and ice pack from them which was $10.00 and was included in the $75.00 cost. Although we will probably never do this again, we were happy we did it just once. It did arrive as scheduled and was very cold. We did not have the option of trying Alaskan Salami with Reindeer Meat while we were in Alaska and it is very good too. I will blog again when we try the other two sausages. Now for the humor of this story. When it arrived we looked at the ingredients and yes, Reindeer Meat was in all three. However, it was the sixth ingredient and BEEF was the first in the salami! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice isn’t going to happen! hahahahaha
